Gods group thoughts for 5/10/2012 “Are All Believer’s Disciples ?”

Luke 14:33…  “So likewise, whoever of you does not forsake all that he has cannot be My disciple.”  (NKJV)

This opening scripture spoken by Jesus is a recurring theme in several places in the gospels…  Jesus presents this description of what it takes to be a disciple of His, as He preached to the “great multitudes around Him”…  I believe this scripture found in…Luke 14:25-35… to be the most complete description of what being a disciple of Christ means…  Jesus never changed His demanding requirements of what it took to become a disciple of His; and the high costs Jesus presented (and still does), sadly led to people turning away from becoming a part of His Father’s kingdom…

I am convinced that all disciples of Christ are believers…and that all believers are disciples in training as they grow and mature in their spiritual knowledge and wisdom about how to please the Lord… I wrote yesterday on what it takes to become a Christian… For those who missed it…it was titled…“Don’t be Turned away from Heaven”…

Sinners must turn from doing their own self-centered will, to the “will of God the Father”, in order to become a Christian… Too many people don’t understand what the Bible clearly reveals to us, to be deemed righteous in God’s eyes… Believing one is a Christian because of their “works done for the Lord” doctrinal teaching, is clearly warned against as Jesus preaches to those around Him in…Matthew 7:21-23, in order for them to understand that His Father requires a change from a person doing their own will, to doing the will of God the Father… Please read yesterdays writing for much more information about this serious false belief…

God’s will for sinners, is to repent and seek the kingdom of God through Jesus Christ, while He may still be found (Isaiah 55:6)… This is done by understanding and obeying the gospel of Jesus Christ…

Many would say they we as sinners don’t have to do anything but believe in faith alone in Jesus Christ, because any thing else would be considered works…   Ephesians 2:8-9…reveals that it’s not about works that saves a sinner…it is a gift of God by grace through faith alone in Jesus Christ… But as I wrote about yesterday…repentance and turning from one’s sins is a requirement of salvation…  This is a heart and mind change from doing our own will to God’s will, and is in no way to be considered self righteous works done in the name of the Lord…

Jesus’ first requirement to become a disciple of His, in this scripture from…Luke 14:25-35… is to love God more than anything else…  Jesus teaches us this, when Jesus reveals to the lawyer (a Pharisee), what His first an second most important commandments are, as written in…

Matthew 22:35-40… Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”  (NKJV)

Jesus teaches us this basic truth in a rather odd way, in…Luke 14:26… “If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters, yes, and his own life also, he cannot be My disciple.”  (NKJV)   …This rather shocking statement made by Jesus, was used to emphasize that our love for the Lord to become a disciple of His, has to be such a great love in comparison to our love for our own family; that this love for our family would seem like hatred…

Jesus makes this teaching about our love for the Him much clearer, in…Matthew 10:37… He who loves father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he who loves son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me.  (NKJV)  …I must continue these thoughts on what it takes to become a disciple of Christ, as Jesus Himself teaches us, in tomorrows writing…

Heavenly Father, there is so much in Your Word that people who spend little or no time reading the Bible will just not be able to learn any other way… I pray Lord, that this study that will continue tomorrow about Jesus’ teaching about becoming His disciple, will show all of us just how much we have yet to learn about Your will and Your ways (me included)… I thank You and praise You now Lord for all that You are…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
