John 21:21-22 Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?” 22 Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”  (NKJV)

This opening scripture has Jesus speaking to the apostle Peter…  It is at the very end of the Book of John, just after Peter had been told by Jesus that he would suffer and die for his Lord…  Jesus knew Peter would be martyred and crucified for Peter’s beliefs and dedication, as the outspoken leader of Christ’s church (Matthew 16:18)… Jesus knew this because of His power of omniscience that allowed Him to see into the future…

Peter had just spotted the apostle John before the opening scripture, and was asking Jesus when and how his friend John would die… The opening scripture reflects Jesus’ response to Peter’s question… As it turned out, the apostle Peter lived for 3 more, decades before Church tradition records that Peter suffered martyrdom under Nero in 67-68 A.D. (2 Peter 1:12-15), and was crucified upside down as Peter requested…

This instruction Jesus has for His disciple Peter, also applies to all Christians today… It is our duty as a child of God, to place the Lord at the center of our lives… God should be first in our lives, and included in our daily thought process as we live our lives for Him…  We aren’t to question God about why He does what He does… God is sovereign; meaning God has total control of all of our lives, and will do as He sees fit… I wrote on this topic back on 6/14/12; and it was titled…“Never ask God Why”…  Here is the link for those who want to learn more about God’s sovereignty…  https://godsmanforever.wordpress.com/wpadmin/post.php?post=95&action=edit

The sole objective of Christians should be to glorify God in all that we say and do… Here is scripture to back this up; written by the apostle Paul, in…1 Corinthians 10:31…   Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.  (NKJV)   …And here is another piece of scripture written by the apostle Peter…

1 Peter 4:11… If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.  (NKJV)

Our primary purpose as a Christian is to please God, not man…  If we have to choose between doing the righteous thing in God’s eyes, or pleasing a friend, and we choose to ignore what is right…we will definitely be making the wrong decision that just can’t be hidden from God…1 Thessalonians 2:4… But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts.  (NKJV)

All of the un-confessed sins of a Christian may lead to temporary enjoyment, with life seemingly going well;  but God has the right to chastise us for our sinful mistakes…Hebrews 12:11…  Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.  (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, Your Word is clear that You will chastise or scourge Your children, when they stray from living a righteous life…Hebrews 12:6-10… Help all of Your children Lord…to confess and repent of any and all sins (1 John 1:9)… And then Lord…help us to follow Your lead, which will keep us on a path filled with blessings; and the promises You make for all of Your obedient children… I pray that we can all humbly walk this narrow path You set before us…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
