Acts 10:25-26 As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him. 26 But Peter lifted him up, saying, “Stand up; I myself am also a man.”  (NKJV)

I made a note to write about this opening scripture several weeks ago; and today I am going to tell you what the Bible clearly states about who Christian’s are to worship…

After doing research on worship, the apostle Peter, the Pope, and Mary the mother of Jesus…I have read much about the Catholic faith… I have included two of the many links I read; before writing today’s thoughts on the opening scripture… I must say, that there is so much negative and positive writing about the Catholic beliefs on worship… The apostle Peter is thought to have become the first bishop of Rome, by early Catholic tradition…  However there is nothing in the New Testament about any connection to the apostle Peter and Rome… I must admit that I personally believed that Catholic’s worshiped the Pope, as well as Mother Mary… But stated over and over again, by many site’s written by and for the Catholic faith…this belief is a false belief…

There is much scripture from the Bible, telling us that there is only one God to be worshiped by mankind…  The opening scripture is an excellent place to start…with the apostle Peter himself, telling Cornelius to get up from worshiping him… After all…even the apostle Peter, who Jesus hand picked to be the top disciple to lead the other disciples in building Christ’s Church (Matthew 16:18), was only a man, and not to be worshiped…

God handed down the 10 Commandments to Moses on 2 stone tablets (Exodus 31:18), and the first 3 commandments have God setting the rules about only worshiping Him, in these 5 verses, in…Exodus 20:1-5…  We also have Moses going over the 10 commandments again, after a second set had to be made by God…  Here is the pertinent piece of scripture, written in…Exodus 34:14 For thou shalt worship no other god: for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:  (KJV)

We read this in the KJV of the Bible…thought to be the most accurate translation by many…Exodus 20:4Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth. (NKJV)

We read this scripture backing up God’s second commandment, as written by the prophet Isaiah; and spoken by God Himself, in…Isaiah 42:8I am the Lord: that is my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images.  (KJV)

We have this scripture spoken by Jesus Himself, in…Matthew 23:9And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven.  (KJV)

And we read this, in the final Book of the Bible, in…Revelation 15:4Who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name? for thou only art holy: for all nations shall come and worship before thee; for thy judgments are made manifest.  (KJV)

Based on the Bible…there is only one God…only one to be called “Holy Father”…and we are not to worship any other man, statue, or idol…only the one true God, our Father in heaven…and the Creator of heaven and earth…Genesis 1:1… Anything we care about as Christian’s, if it more important to us than God, is considered to be a god in God’s eyes…and a breach of the 10 Commandments…

Here are the 2 links I mentioned above:     http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mary_%28mother_of_Jesus%29       &

Heavenly Father, I pray Your Word would have all Christian’s understand what is considered right in Your eyes…and what You would consider inappropriate in the way of who and how we worship anything or anyone else… I pray Lord, that Your Word would open the eyes of those in need of seeing the truth as presented in the Bible…  Help all of us Lord, in our quest to be pleasing in Your sight… I pray for this “clean bill of health” for all of us…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
