2 Timothy 2:3-4You therefore must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. No one engaged in warfare entangles himself with the affairs of this life, that he may please him who enlisted him as a soldier.  (NKJV)

The apostle Paul used the analogy that followers of Jesus Christ were like soldiers, which would be in battle against Satan and persecutors their entire lives…  Yesterday I wrote about a piece of scripture that Paul penned, that tells us that ALL Christian’s will suffer persecution, if they are living godly, Spirit filled lives for the Lord…  2 Timothy 3:12Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.  (NKJV)

Since I got side tracked yesterday on this topic of persecution…I will try and finish my thoughts today… There is much scripture revealing the fact that Christian’s who share their faith, can expect to be persecuted… Luke wrote this scripture, in…Acts 14:21-22And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, 22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying,We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God.” (NKJV)

This scripture came right after Luke wrote about the apostle Paul’s stoning by the Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who had left Paul for dead; as recorded in…Acts 14:19

The apostle Paul, who wrote the opening scripture, is telling us that as Christian’s…we are not to get tangle up with sinning people still living in the world… James tells us the same thing, in…James 4:4Adulterers and adulteresses! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.  (NKJV)

And no where in scripture is it made clearer, that Christian’s should separate themselves from the world and its sinful ways, than this scripture written by the apostle John towards the end of his life, in…1 John 2:15-16Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the worldthe lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of lifeis not of the Father but is of the world.  (NKJV)

The apostle Paul tells us in the opening scripture…that as Christian’s, if we are living lives to please the Lord (who called us to become a soldier in His army)…we must endure hardship as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”

Jesus Himself, in the beginning of His public ministry…as He presents His “Sermon on the Mount” preaching, in…Matthew Chapter 5-7…tells us this, in…Matthew 5:10-12…  Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.  (NKJV)

So don’t think it strange or unusual to suffer persecution or ridicule, as you try to be a good soldier for Jesus Christ… Besides the apostle Paul, James, Luke, John, and Christ Himself; the apostle Peter, Christ’s chosen leader of His church (Matthew 16:17-18), wrote this about suffering for Christ, in…

1 Peter 4:12-13Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.  (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, I pray that all Christian’s reading this scripture from Your Word today, would begin to understand that a little suffering and persecution in this lifetime for Your namesake, will mean an eternity in heaven with great reward… I pray Lord, that just like Your apostle Paul has written…that we as Your children can become a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”…  Help all of Your soldiers to pass muster…  I pray for this practical sanctification for all of Your children…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
