Titus 2:7-8in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.  (NKJV)

The opening scripture has the apostle Paul writing to another protégé of his, by the name of Titus…  Titus was a young pastor who had trained under Paul; who was facing opposition from ungodly men in the churches in Crete that he was trying to help… Titus was to pass on these instructions of encouragement and direction found in Paul’s letter to Titus…to the leaders of these churches Titus was to help appoint (Titus 1:5)…

If we call ourselves Christian’s, there is much we can all learn about how to live godly lives from this short piece of  opening scripture… Today, I focus on sound speech, because in recent days I have seen and heard examples of speech that God would not look upon as being proper for His children to utter…

Jesus tells us this, about what comes out of our mouth, in…Matthew 15:18-19But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.  (NKJV)

There is no easier way to spot a person (even a total stranger), who can’t possibly be absolutely and totally controlled by the Holy Spirit…if ungodly words come out of their mouth on a regular basis… While no one knows the heart of a person, except the Lord (1 Samuel 16:7b)…the Bible gives Christian’s much advice about the use of our tongue…  The apostle James tells us, the tongue is impossible to totally control, in…James 3:6-8

I can personally attest to the inability of being 100% able to control my own tongue…  But before my salvation…curse words use to flow out of my mouth on a regular basis… After my salvation… the use of curse words have all but become a thing of the past…  Praise the Lord, for the major changes that occurred in my life, at that moment in time when God chose to grace me with His free gift of salvation…

When I look around me at the older, more mature members of my church…I just don’t see curse words being used… And yet, by the younger generation…it seems that the use of fowl language is just not considered to be any big deal !!  Some of these words are so commonly used in this day and age…that they become commonplace, especially among young Christian’s (and a few older ones), in today’s culture…

I have come to believe that all young teens that become true Christian’s…must go through a period of time where they will show their spiritual immaturity by constantly sinning… For some…it might take a year or 2 until they start living for the Lord… For others, it seems that they must go through a period of sometimes years of struggling with all kinds of sins, which should have been left behind when they became Christian’s…

Look at this scripture written by Paul, to the believers at the church of Colossi, in…Colossians 3:8-10But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy languageout of your mouth. Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds, 10 and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him, (NKJV)

I count 5 sins that have to do with the tongue, in this scripture… Christian’s, at the moment God has graced them with salvation…should become a new creation in Christ…2 Corinthian’s 5:17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.  (NKJV)

As mature Christian’s, it is our responsibility to help teach younger Christian’s what the Bible clearly reveals to us, when we see them sinning in God’s eyes… Jesus tells us this, in…Matthew 18:15Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. If he hears you, you have gained your brother.”  (NKJV)

When we speak to a sinning person, who we believe is a brother or sister in Christ…even if they have not sinned against us personally…, we not only have the right, but the duty to try and help them understand they are sinning, because of our love and our concern for them… As Christian’s, we are all part of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:20)… Any sin committed by one, is a sin against the whole body…

The apostle Paul teaches us this, in…Galatians 6:1-2Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.  (NKJV)

We aren’t to jump all over the sinning Christian, to condemn them… Our desire should be to edify a weaker brother or sister in Christ, to help them grow in their knowledge and wisdom of what living for the Lord is all about…  As more mature Christian’s, we should never look down at a weaker sinning brother or sister in Christ… We should always remember that “There but for the grace of God go I”; realizing that we could fall into sin at any time; and hope that a fellow brother or sister would help us see the error of our ways…

Here is one last piece of scripture penned by the apostle Paul, for all Christian’s to try and live by…Ephesians 4:29 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.  (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, I pray that these words of instruction will be taken as loving, godly advice from one Christian to another… I pray Lord, that all of Your children understand their responsibility to help any weaker brother or sister they see sinning…because of their love and concern for strengthening their brethren; and their hope of unity for Your church as one body… I pray Lord, that You would help each of Your children, in whatever area of weakness they may have…I pray for this unity of spirit for all of us…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
