Gods group thoughts for 9/01/2012 “Be Prepared”

“Our Daily Bread”

The Daily Devotions of Greg Laurie

Galatians 1:18Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and remained with him fifteen days.  (NKJV)

The opening scripture was written by the apostle Paul (formerly named Saul), who was struck down by Christ from heaven, as Saul was on his way to Damascus… Christ took hold of Saul’s life, and converted him from a strict Pharisee, determined to crucify as many Christians as possible…to Christ’s chosen vessel, to primarily preach the gospel to the Gentiles (Acts 9:15)… This amazing conversion always amazes me; and should give hope to anyone with un-repented past sins who is not a Christian in God’s eyes…that God can forgive any past sins, no matter how bad…

This scripture about Saul’s conversion can be found in Acts chapter 9; and here is the link for further reading… http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=acts9:1-19&version=NKJV

The opening scripture reveals that Paul, after his miraculous conversion, didn’t go up to Jerusalem for 3 years… He went to Arabia, and then to Damascus (Galatians 1:17); and my study notes by John MacArthur say that Paul was instructed by the Lord Himself, while he was in Arabia…

In the last couple of days, I have been suggesting that Christians prepare themselves before they venture out to share the gospel of Christ to those around them in need…  This preparation for me took over 7 years, before I was comfortable at being able to share my faith… I can’t speak for anyone else, but if it took 3 years of instruction by the Lord, before Paul was prepared to start his ministry to proclaim the gospel of Christ…I do not believe that we, as brand new Christians, will not be qualified and prepared to share the gospel of Christ in a short amount of time…

There is one thing I believe Christians will need to do, to become prepared to share their faith…  God’s Word must be read…understood…and digested…to obtain the knowledge and the wisdom that I believe is needed to properly share the gospel of Christ… Christians must be ready to respond to questions that will inevitably arise… Those questions can best be answered by wisdom obtained from reading God’s Word…

The wise Solomon wrote this, in…Proverbs 2:6For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; (NKJV)

Jesus Himself told us this, in…Matthew 4:4But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ” (NKJV)

No one today can verbally hear God speak to us… But God’s Word is living and powerful…Hebrews 4:12… Just like we need food to nourish and grow our physical bodies…we need to be fed (hopefully daily) by the spiritual food Jesus speaks about in the scripture above… From the moment God graces the sinner with the gift of salvation, they are indwelt with the Holy Spirit; right along with the fruit of the Spirit… These fruit are the 9 “Christ like” attributes that Jesus portrayed, as listed by the apostle Paul, in…

Galatians 5:22-23But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.  (NKJV)

The lifelong process known as sanctification starts, where the Christian should continue to grow in spiritual knowledge and wisdom of the Lord… Their spiritual fruit should gradually grow from seeds to a mature Christian by sanctification… And finally at death, the Christian will finally be pure, as Christ is pure…1 John 3:2-3

Without being fed by God’s Word…the Christian will starve spiritually; and much needed growth will be stunted or stopped…  At this point, the Christian will be in a stagnant, or worse – a backslidden state… Satan will be right there keeping the Christian from the spiritual knowledge and wisdom that are needed to be properly prepared to share the gospel of Christ…

These are my thoughts about why Christians MUST  be fed by God’s Word… Christian must grow closer to the Lord through His Word; along with prayer, and Christian fellowship on Sundays…as Christians corporately meet to worship the Lord…  Anything less…will have Satan smiling; as the unprepared Christian will not be able to effectively share the gospel of Christ…

Heavenly Father, I am ever so thankful for Your book of instruction, the Bible…  I pray Lord, that others will be urged by You and the truth from Your Word today…to open and start being fed by Your Word…  I pray that all of us can learn to live in Your will and Your ways…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
