Gods group thoughts for 9/30/2012 “Lighten Your Load”

1 John 5:3-4a For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome. For whatever is born of God overcomes the world.  (NKJV)

The Apostle John’s memory of what Jesus had taught him, while Jesus walked with His disciples for over 3 years, never faded from John’s mind…  Historians believe that the Book of 1 John was written by the Apostle John in 90-95 A.D.  We see the Apostle John writing the following scripture many years earlier, found in the gospel Book of John, as the spoken words of Jesus Christ…  Jesus was trying to console His disciples, after Jesus told them that He would be leaving them to go be with His Father in heaven…

John 14:15-17“If you love Me, keep My commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— 17 theSpirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you.”  (NKJV)

A true child of God is given the Holy Spirit (the Spirit of truth), as a lifelong, live-in Helper… Jesus repeats the same description of the Holy Spirit a few verses later, in…John 14:26But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.  (NKJV)  I would be reasonably sure it was the Holy Spirit that was helping John to remember what the Lord had taught him so many years earlier, when John penned the opening scripture…

This help from the Holy Spirit in teaching the Christian all things, is only possible if we pay attention to what He is trying to teach us… The opening scripture has John telling Christians that obeying God’s commandments are not burdensome… I know people who have told me that living for the Lord is too hard…  I believe it’s either a matter of not wanting to stop the enjoyable pleasures that the lusts of the world ensnare people with…or as Christians, they aren’t allowing the Lord to lighten their load…

The opening scripture also tells us that whoever is born of God overcomes the world”… There is nothing we can do ourselves to become a Christian (Ephesians 2:8-9)… God approves us as His children, as He gives us the free gift of grace through saving faith alone in Jesus Christ… We see this in scripture very clearly, in…

John 1:12-13…   But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. (NKJV)

The Christian that allows the Holy Spirit to control their lives (a Spirit filled Christian)…will be living for the Lord; and should find obeying His commandments easy, as the Lord is able to lighten their load…

Jesus Himself tells us this, in…Matthew 11:29-30Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”  (NKJV)

If you are a Christian struggling along on your own strength…look to the Lord as first in your life, and let the Holy Spirit take total control of everything you say and do… The Lord promises that He will never leave nor forsake His children…Hebrews 13:5-6… But you have to submit to Him before He can lighten your load…

Heavenly Father, I thank You for the promises that are so evident from Your Word, that You will provide to those that know Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior… I pray Father that all of us will find the perfect peace that You will provide for Your Spirit filled children…  I pray for this, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
