Gods group thoughts for 12/27/2012 “The Gift of Faith”

“Our Daily Bread”

The Daily Devotions of Greg Laurie

Psalm 24:3-5Who may ascend into the hill of the Lord? Or who may stand in His holy place? He who has clean hands and a pure heart, Who has not lifted up his soul to an idol, Nor sworn deceitfully. He shall receive blessing from the Lord, And righteousness from the God of his salvation.  (NKJV)

The opening scripture was written by David, a man after God’s own heart…Acts 13:22And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’  (NKJV)

Can you imagine being told by God, that you were a man after God’sown heart??   And let me tell you; David was no angel… David had committed adultery with Bathsheba, Uriah’s wife; and then had Uriah killed to cover it up, when David found out that Bathsheba was pregnant with his child… Here is the link for some extra reading, if you’re interested in the details… http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2sam11&version=NKJV

David reveals who God will grace with salvation, in the opening scripture…  He who has clean hands and a pure heart,”… And God Himself tells us what will please Him, in the scripture above… He who will do all My will

We just celebrated what I believe is the second most important day in all of history… The birth of baby Jesus… Some might say it was the most important day…  But I believe Jesus’ resurrection from the grave, is the most significant day the world has ever seen…  Jesus’ ability to overcome death, is what the Christian faith is based upon… Without Jesus’ resurrection and ascension into heaven…Christians would have no hope of eternal life with the Lord in heaven…

The church I go to was filled with people last Sunday…and again on Christmas Eve…  And like most churches at Christmas and Easter…there were people that make an appoint to come to those two days of worship…but then don’t have the desire to come worship the Lord every week…  And then there are the people that make church every single week, because there church deems it a sin to miss church…but don’t have the desire to worship and give praise to the Lord every single day…

Going to church isn’t something we as Christians should have to do, to fulfill an obligation…  Christians who are filled with the Holy Spirit, want to do the will of the Father, because they are given the urge to please Him…  Having a pure heartthat is filled with the love of Christ, is what will give the Christian the right of passage through those pearly white gates of heaven, when they die…

It’s not about being baptized as an infant, or going to church every week…or confessing our sins to any mortal man…that will allow God to cleanse our sinful heart…  Jesus gave us this important warning, regarding any false belief that these self-righteous works…even though they are done in the name of the Lord…don’t allow God to forgive our sins…

Matthew 7:21-23…     Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’ ” (NKJV)

Take note of what Jesus tells us will  get us into heaven… he who does the will of My Father in heaven… Again, we see the need to obey God’s will, to be deemed righteous in His sight…  This obedience that is required to receive God’s gift of grace, is known as obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ… Failure to obey the gospel will result in eternal damnation…as written about in this “eye opening” scripture by the Apostle Paul, in…2 Thessalonians 1:8-9…    (http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2thes1:8-9&version=NKJV )

Here is a link for this most important days writing about how God’s grace is received to become a Christian in God’s eyes, through obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ…https://godsmanforever.wordpress.com/2012/10/20/gods-group-thoughts-for-10202012-gods-grace-through-obedience-to-the-gospel-of-christ/

Unredeemed sinners must first be drawn in by God (John 6:44), and given the gift of faith to believe in Christ…Ephesians 2:8-9…  It is God’s pure grace that cleanses the sinner’s heart, not any works that they do… And its God that gives them a pure heart, and Christ’s righteousness from the God of his salvation

Philippians 3:9and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;  (NKJV)

The exact sequence of all the details of receiving God’s grace, is still a mystery to me…  But the truth that our faith is a God given gift to believe in Christ, is I believe, without reproach by my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ…

Heavenly Father, as the joyous feelings we have about Christmas fade…help Your children to remain focused on doing their best to live a life that will be pleasing to You…  Convict us by the Holy Spirit when we sin…and urge us Lord, to confess and turn from any sins (1 John 1:9), to remain walking in sweet fellowship with You…  I pray Lord, that You urge us to look to You for guidance and direction for our lives…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
