Gods group thoughts for 12/28/2012 “Let There be Peace on Earth”

“Our Daily Bread”

Philippians 2:3Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.  (NKJV)

As I go through a list of scriptures that I have earmarked to write about, from my Q/T reading; and see one I want to use for the day’s writing…I usually close my eyes and ponder my thoughts on the scripture…  Today the hymn… “Let There be Peace on Earth”, popped into my meager brain…

Here is a link with both the lyrics, and a version of this 1955 hymn, sung by the artist Vince Gill, and his daughter, Jenny…    http://www.angelfire.com/in/omega2/LetThereBePeaceOnEarth.html

Here are the simple lyrics…

Let there be peace on earth  and let it begin with me   Let There Be Peace on Earth  The peace that was meant to be    With God as our Father  Brothers all are we     Let me walk with my brother  In perfect harmony.   Let peace begin with me Let this be the moment now.   With ev’ry step I take Let this be my solemn vow   To take each moment and live Each moment in peace eternally   Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.”

Jesus gave us the answer to peace on earth, when He gave us His 2 most important commandments, in…

Matthew 22:36-40“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?” 37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”  (NKJV)

As Christians, I believe we cannot have absolute God given peace in our lives, unless God is first in everything we say and do…  And when the love of Christ fills every part of our heart, our soul, and our mind…there will be no room for hate, or envy, or greed…or any other sin that will interfere with the sweet fellowship we enjoy, as we walk in the Spirit with the Lord…

Jesus’ second most important commandment… You shall love your neighbor as yourself, was reiterated by the Apostle Paul, in the opening scripture…  But the Apostle Paul tells us that we should esteem others better than himself

Absolute peace in our own life starts with placing God above all else…  But if each of us as Christians, could then place our spouses ahead of ourselves (if we are married)…followed by others, and their needs before our own…we really could start the ball rolling that could bring peace to at least our little part of the world…

Here is a note at the bottom of the link for this hymn… I just couldn’t put it any better than this… May your Holidays be filled with Peace, Love, and Happiness, and may the New Year bring you every Joy and the warmth and closeness of family and friends.

Heavenly Father, Your Son Jesus was born to give us the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6)…  Help us Lord, as Your children…to bring peace to our little part of this world… Help us Lord, to walk in the Spirit; and then to step back and do our best to put the needs of those around us, ahead of ourselves… I pray for this “Peace on Earth”, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
