Gods group thoughts for 12/29/2012 “Walking in the Spirit”

Philippians 2:5 & 8Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.  (NKJV)

Yesterday, I wrote about how peace on earth begins with our own spiritual peace…  But the Christian’s peace is a God given peace, unlike any mortal peace an unredeemed sinner can possibly experience…  This supernatural peace that goes beyond our mortal comprehension (Philippians 4:6-7), is a peace God wants His children to have all of the time… But how is this accomplished ??

I remember the day God graced me with salvation…  There was an unbelievable peace and a calmness that came over me that morning in church, which is almost impossible to describe…  It was like a gigantic weight had been taken off of my shoulders… Jesus tells us that Christians will find rest for their souls, in…Matthew 11:29…  Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  (NKJV)

The brand new Christian is indwelled with the Holy Spirit, and sealed forever…John 14:16… The Holy Spirit resides within the Christian as their lifelong Helper, to teach them and to guide them in all things…John 14:26

The Apostle Paul tells the believers not to fall back into the ways of the world…but to allow their minds to be transformed and renewed to do God’s perfect will, in the following scripture…

Romans 12:1-2I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.  (NKJV)

Jesus Christ lived a perfect, sinless life; and was always obedient to His Father in heaven… Jesus remained humble and obedient to whatever His Father wanted Him to accomplish…  And like the opening scripture tells us, Jesus was obedient “to the point of death, even the death of the cross.”

For the Christian to have a mind even remotely similar to the mind of Christ, they too must be obedient to the will of their Father in heaven… Though Christians are indwelt with the Holy Spirit who will never leave them, at the time they become Christians…the sweet fellowship of walking in the Spirit can be interrupted by sin, and/or by taking back control from the Holy Spirit…

I am here to tell you, that this peace God gives to all of His children can disappear…along with the joy of being filled with the Holy Spirit… I say this because I personally, had somehow taken back control from the Holy Spirit, and the peace and the joy I once had were gone…  When I finally humbly prayed to the Lord, to take back control of my life…He immediately gave me back the peace and the joy I had lost…  This was over 3 years ago; and I live day by day at doing my best to remain filled with (being obedient to) the Holy Spirit…

The Apostle Paul tells believers not to grieve the Holy Spirit by sinning, in…Ephesians 4:30 ; and not to douse the fire with-in the believer, by quenching the Holy Spirit with sin, in…1 Thessalonians 5:19  The Apostle Paul instructs the Ephesians from the church in Ephesus, to be filled with the Holy Spirit…as they allow the Holy Spirit to direct their lives…

Ephesians 5:18-20…  And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,  (NKJV)

I believe that being filled with the Holy Spirit, and walking in the Spirit, are one in the same…and they are accomplished by confessing and turning from one’s sins, to live in obedience to God’s will…1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  (NKJV)

Walking in the Spirit is a day by day, and even a moment by moment way of living…where I am conscious of what God teaches us in the Bible about how we are to live…  By testing the spirits, I try to discern what the Holy Spirit is telling me, and then do my best to follow Him…1 John 4:1-6

Here is a 9 minute audio done by John MacArthur, on…“How to Test the Spirits –Part 1”, that I found to be very interesting…    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8dtyzqv2Is

For those that are interested in understanding even more about testing the spirits, to see if they are of God or of Satan…here is a 20 minute audio by John Piper, done on…1 John 4:1-6

Have you lost that love of Christ you once had ??  Is your God given peace and joy gone, like mine was ??

Learn from my mistakes, and be filled again with the Holy Spirit; as you humbly submit your life to Christ, and turn from and confess your sins…1 John 1:9

Heavenly Father, I am ever so thankful for the grace and the mercy You have bestowed upon me…and the longsuffering You showed toward me for the first 52 years of my life… I pray Lord that this truth from Your Word will cut right to the very core of anyone not walking in the Spirit (Hebrews 4:12-13)…  I pray for Your peace and Your blessings to fall upon all of Your obedient children…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
