1 Corinthians 13:2-3And though I have the gift of prophecy, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, but have not love, it profits me nothing.  (NKJV)

Chapter 13, in the Book of 1 Corinthians, is devoted to why agape love for both Christ and others is a must, before any unity or growth in the church body can possibly exist…  The Apostle Paul was writing to the believers in the church of Corinth, because they were arguing over spiritual gifts that the Holy Spirit had given them; and it was causing quarrels and selfish pride to run rampant; instead of having a unifying effect of bringing them all together as one body of Christ…

Jesus teaches us, that His greatest commandment is to love Him with all of our heart, all of our soul, and all of our mind, in…Matthew 22:36-38…  Then Jesus gives us His second most important commandment, in…Matthew 22:39-40And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”  (NKJV)

I wrote yesterday, about the loveless church in Ephesus; who had been founded for 40+ years…and was doing great works in the name of the Lord…  But their love for Christ had grown cold…  Christ, through revelation…written by the Apostle John, in…Revelation 2:1-7…tells them that if they didn’t repent, and bring the love of Christ back into their hearts and lives…that the church would be snuffed out !! (Revelation 2:5)… Here is the link for yesterdays writing… https://godsmanforever.wordpress.com/2013/01/14/gods-group-thoughts-for-1142013-the-loveless-church/

Kind of reveals just how important it is to Christ, that our first love must be totally for the Lord…  We see Jesus teaching us the same thing, when He lived among us…as recorded in…John 15:5“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.”  (NKJV)

But Jesus’ second most important commandment, our love for those around us…was also important to Jesus…  And the Christian’s love for both Christ and others together, was the basis for everything else (On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets)…   Jesus tells His disciples (and us) this, in…

John 13:34-35…  A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. 35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”  (NKJV)

Churches, which are filled with the love of Christ, and a whole hearted love for each other…will be given spiritual gifts that should unite the body of believers into one body…with one mind, and one common thread…love…   The Apostle Paul pens this, in…Philippians 2:1-2Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.  (NKJV)

Christians that are walking in the Spirit, who are members of a church that is alive with Christ…will be urged by the Holy Spirit to use their spiritual gifts without hesitation; to help the body of believers grow in their love for the Lord, and to grow the church in physical numbers…  Their exuberance will rub off on other non-members, who they tell about how much love their church possesses… We see this in the Apostle Paul’s writing to the Ephesians, in…

Ephesians 4:15-16but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.  (NKJV)

Indeed, loveis the key to a churches growth, when it is based on biblical principles; along with Spirit filled Christians that are using their spiritual gifts to create one unified body for the Lord…  The Apostle John, who was well up in age, wrote this, in…1 John 4:8He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.  (NKJV)

The Apostle Paul finishes his chapter 13 on love, with this, in…1 Corinthians 13:13And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.  (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, Your Word is clear…that Christ (love) is the foundation that a church must be built upon…  Help all of Your children to find a church that is filled with Your love…and then urge us to become part of Your body, by utilizing the spiritual gifts that every child of God is given…  I pray for this unity of love in a growing body of Christ, for all of Your children, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
