Joshua 24:15…  And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”  (NKJV)

The last chapter in the Book of Joshua…has Joshua reminding the Israelites, that they were the chosen ones by God, to have made it to the “Promised Land” of Canaan…the land flowing with milk and honey (Exodus 33:3)…  Joshua reminded the Israelites how the Lord had gone before them to win every battle…and how He had provided them with land they hadn’t labored for…with cities they did not build…and with vineyards and olive groves that they did not plant (Joshua 24:11-13)…

Joshua was 110 years old at this point; and his death was imminent…  Joshua was trying to get the Israelites to make a covenant with the Lord, in which they would graciously continue to serve the Lord, as he had faithfully done… Indeed a covenant was made with the people to serve the Lord, and a statue and ordinance made in Shechem…  Joshua died; and at the end of the Book of Joshua, it is written that Israel served the Lord all the days of the elders, who had outlived Joshua…  But their service to the Lord was short lived…

The next Book of Judges, spans about 350 years…and is ruled by 14 judges who were involved in 7 distinct periods of going from sin to salvation…  It’s all about God’s power and covenant mercy, in delivering the Israelites from the consequences of their failures…

Christians’ today must decide who they will serve…  God has chosen them out of this world (Philippians 3:20) to serve Him (John 15:16)… They are graced with the free gift of salvation, when through saving faith alone in Jesus Christ; they become a child of God (Ephesians 2:8-9)…and their lifetime of past, present, and future sins thereby forgiven… The Bible tells us that God will remember His children’s sins no more (Hebrews 8:12)…

If Christians today would just stop…take some serious time…and truly understand the debt they owe the Lord…for the limitless grace He gives to all of His children…even when they fail Him time and time again…I believe there would be more Christians serving the Lord…

The Apostle Paul gives us a piece of scripture; I would like all of you to read through a couple of times…  It paints a picture of what the character of a Christian living for Christ should look like…

Colossians 3:12-17…   Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put ontender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. 17 And whatever you do in word or deed, doall in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.  (NKJV)

Friends, these fruit of the Spirit should be evident in all of God’s children, as they allow the Holy Spirit to control every facet of their lives…  A Spirit filled Christian will have a supernatural peace (Philippians 4:6-7)…the fullness of God, plus a love of Christ which passes our mortal knowledge (Ephesians 3:19)…and a fullness of joy, because of Christ living in them (John 15:11)…

Christians that are not serving the Lord with all of their being, are typically gratifying their own flesh by serving other gods or Satan…will typically be harboring habitual sin or addictions of some kind…and will probably be living with anxiety, doubts, fears, evil thoughts, or any other of a long list of possible baggage…which will keep them from the blessings the Lord wants to shower on His obedient children, who are walking in sweet fellowship with Him…

If you’re a Christian who is not Spirit filled…why not get rid of the excess baggage that Satan and the world are using to hold you back from the promises Jesus makes of an abundant life…John 10:10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.  (NKJV)

Get down on your knees and confess all of your sins to the Lord…as you turn from them to Christ (1 John 1:9)…  Ask Him to take charge of your life…  Make this prayer with a sincere heart…and watch what the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit is capable of doing in your life…Ephesians 3:20Now to Him who is able to do exceedinglyabundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, I pray those in need of a supercharged life, will see the awesome power of The Holy Spirit revealed in the truth of Your Word today…  I pray Lord, that You will urge those in need of ridding themselves of their excess baggage of life…to lighten their load by allowing the Holy Spirit to take full control…as they confess and turn from their sins (1 John 1:9)…  I pray for this fullness of Christ, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
