Hebrews 12:1b-2alet us layaside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, (NKJV)

An avid reader of the Bible, could easily mistake reading the opening scripture…and conclude that it was the Apostle Paul who wrote it…  But I believe the Book of Hebrews is the only book in the New Testament, whose author is unknown…

The Apostle Paul used the idea of the Christian being in a lifelong race, a few times in scripture that he penned…  1 Corinthians 9:24…&…2 Timothy 4:7-8I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, willgive to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.  (NKJV)

The Apostle Paul indeed finished a grueling race…fighting more persecution, trials, and tribulations than anyone in the New Testament, except for Christ Himself… You can read about the Apostle Paul’s extensive suffering for Christ, in…2 Corinthians 11:22-28…   And yet through it all, the Apostle Paul never lost his faith in Christ…

Indeed, it is the saving faith in Jesus Christ, which allows God to grace the new Christian with salvation to begin with…Ephesians 2:8-9…  We see this in the opening scripture…Jesus, the author of our faith…  Jesus Himself tells us that we must go through Him; in order receive eternal life with His father in heaven, in…

John 14:6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. Noone comes to the Father except through Me.  (NKJV)    (Theway, is through understanding and obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ – See link at the end)

But we also see from the opening scripture, that Jesus is the finisher of our faith…  The Apostle Paul pens this, in…Philippians 1:6being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a goodwork in you will completeit until the day of Jesus Christ;  (NKJV)

The Bible has many references to the power of the Holy Spirit in the life of a Christian…  But this power to direct the Christian’s life must be left in complete control…as the obedient Christian totally submits to the leading of the Holy Spirit…  God has given all Christians the Holy Spirit as a life long Helper, on the day they are graced with salvation by God…John 14:26

We talked in our men’s Bible study yesterday, about what the Christian must doto harness the awesome power of the Holy Spirit…  Three scripture verses were referenced…all essentially telling us the same thing…Deuteronomy 6:5, Luke 10:27, and Mark 12:30-31…  I will add this, in…

Matthew…22:37-40Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God withall your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And thesecond is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”  (NKJV)

Here is a link with all 4 of these important scriptures…   Because they are repeated 4 times in the Bible…I would be sure God really wanted us to let these scripture versus sink into our mortal brains… http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=deut6:5,%20lu10:27,%20mk12:30-31,%20mat%2022:37-40&version=NKJV

Jesus tells us in…Matthew 22:40…that if we can obey these two greatest commandments…everything else will fall into place… The key here friends…is to abide in Christ’s love, by saturating every part of your being with the love of Christ…  When our heart, our mind, our soul, and our strength are all being controlled by the Holy Spirit…we will be walking in the Spirit and in sweet fellowship with the Lord…Galatians 5:16-17…

This fullness of Christ will defeat Satan’s temptations to sin…it will conquer all fears and anxieties that life’s trials will bring into our lives…it will fill us with the supernatural love of Christ which passes our mortal knowledge… Ephesians 3:19-20the fullness of joy when the Christian is walking in the Spirit… John 15:11…&…Jude 1:24…and give us a supernatural peace, which goes beyond our mortal understanding…Philippians 4:6-7

I am led day in and day out, to repeat these truths that God’s Word presents…because I have experienced this mind boggling, awesome power of the Holy Spirit in my own life…  I urge each and every reader to work out their own salvation for themselves…

Philippians 2:12-13…  Therefore, my beloved, as you have alwaysobeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, workout your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both towill and todo for His good pleasure(NKJV)

I believe the following scripture penned by Jesus’ half brother James, because the Holy Spirit has indeed protected me (for the most part) from Satan’s temptations to sin…James 4:7-8…  Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, I pray that each and every one of Your children (who had saving faith and gave total submission to You, in order to become a Christian to begin with)…would continue to place Christ front and center in their lives with every part of their being…  I pray for this fullness of Christ for all of us…so that Your richest blessings would shower upon Your obedient children like never before…  I pray for these supernatural blessings of hope, joy, peace, and love for all of us…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ,  bruce
