James 5:16Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.  (NKJV)

Does God hear and respond to the prayers of both the unredeemed sinner, as well as the Christian ??  I searched through much scripture in the Old Testament, as well as the New Testament, to answer this question…  Let scripture speak for itself…

Psalm 66:18If I regard iniquity in my heart, The Lord will not hear.  (NKJV)

Isaiah 59:2But your iniquities have separated you from your God; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear.  (NKJV)

Proverbs 1:26-29I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your terror comes, 27 When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. 28 Then they will call on me, but I will notanswer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. 29 Because they hatedknowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord,  (NKJV)

Not looking good so far, for an un-redeemed, unsaved sinner…for God to hear and to respond positively to a non-Christian’s prayers…

Here is what Jesus tells us about believers, in…Matthew 6:14-15“For if youforgivemen their trespasses, your heavenly Father will alsoforgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”  (NKJV)   It appears that we as believers can’t be holding any grudges against someone else who sins against us, if we expect God to forgive us of our sins…

The Apostle John has this to say about the subject, in…John 9:31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him.  (NKJV)    But just because a believer is walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16), in sweet fellowship with the Lord, and the Lord hears the believers prayers…is the Lord going to answer in a positive manner ??   Not according to the Apostle James, Jesus’ half brother, when he pens this, in…

James 4:3You ask and do not receive, because you askamiss, that you mayspendit on your pleasures.  (NKJV)    Kind of rules out asking God for a million dollars, so that you can “party hardy”, so to speak…

God is sovereign; so He can do as He sees fit…  But I personally believe that God will hear and respond positively to all prayers from His obedient children, who are praying for something that is in the will of God for their lives… I base this on the following scripture, penned by the wise Apostle John…near the end of a long Christian life, in…

1 John 5:14-15 Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we askanything according to Hiswill, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.  (NKJV)

If you are a parent, think about how you treat your own children…  You’re not going to reward them when they are defiant, and not being obedient…  And you’re not going to give them everything they ask for…especially if it’s not good for them…  But you will reward a child who is obedient, with something that you had in mind for them all along…

If you’re a Christian, what makes you think the Lord is going to bless you, if you are living in sin…and blatantly defiant to the leading of the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30)??   The Apostle James has this to say, in…James 1:22…&…25…   But be doers of the word, and nothearers only, deceiving yourselves.25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, thisone will be blessed in what he does.  (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, Your Word is clear from start to finish, that You love all of us…sinners as well as Your obedient children…  But Your Word is also clear that You despise sin…  Help all of us Father, to seek Your Son Jesus Christ, to become our personal Lord and Savior…while He may still be found…Isaiah 55:6…  And then Father, help all of Your children to live Spirit filled lives (Ephesians 5:18-20) that will be pleasing in Your sight…  I pray for this fullness of Christ for all of us, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ,  bruce r mills
