“Pillow Talk”
“The LORD is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him sincerely.” Psalm 145:18 (NLT)
Of all the conversations that take place before we go to sleep or when we awaken, there is nothing better than having a pillow talk of prayer with God.
As we review the events of the day the Holy Spirit will convict us of where we have fallen short of the glory of God and need to confess and receive forgiveness. We should take time to count and thank God for His blessings of the day.
We can turn the anguish of sleeplessness into a cushion of grace by counting our blessings instead of counting sheep and letting the peace and security of God’s love overcome us as we rejoice in Him.
As sweet as God’s pillow of grace is to go to sleep on, it is even better to awake upon. When we open our eyes, we should also open our hearts to receive the daily manna of renewed grace and strength to see us through another day of joy in the Lord.
When we begin the day by acknowledging the God who made it, and commit to rejoice and be glad in it, we are going to get a running start on living the day God’s way by the power of the Holy Spirit living within us.
For those of us who tend to “snooze and lose” by going to sleep in the middle of our prayers it might be better to pray before putting our head on the pillow.
When we rest our weary head on God’s pillow of grace we can rest knowing that the Holy Spirit is making intercession for us even while we are sleeping.
When we commit each new day to living a life pleasing to God by asking the Holy Spirit to guide and guard us in all that we say and do, we can be sure that this is the kind of God honoring prayer that He will surely answer.
Father, help me to develop the discipline of “pillow talk” with you. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
