Psalm 92:13-14Those who are planted in the house of the Lord Shall flourish in the courts of our God. 14 They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing,  (NKJV)

I am a firm believer that one is as old as they feel… But just because we get up in age, or we are afflicted with any debilitating illness, is no reason to be complaining about our aches and our pains…

The psalmist, who wrote the opening scripture, was speaking about older people…  But they weren’t speaking about their physical well-being… They were speaking about a believer’s spiritual health…

The Apostle Paul speaks about a healthy, well rooted Christian spirit, when he pens this, in…Ephesians 3:16-19that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.  (NKJV)

I post this scripture often, because the Apostle Paul paints such a beautiful picture of the mature Christian…whose spirit is anchored in Christ, with roots that are “grounded in love”…   And this love is no ordinary mortal love…  It is an agape “love of Christ which passes knowledge”…

Our physical body is just an earthen vessel that holds our heart, mind, and soul…2 Corinthians 4:7-12… If God wills it, we may live and breathe for 80-90 years or so…  But our soul will last for an eternity…  Jesus tells us what we should really be concerned about, in…Matthew 10:28… And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.  (NKJV)

When an unredeemed sinner places their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, through a personal relationship that is established by God’s grace, through our understanding and obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ…their eternal future is guaranteed to include a room in God’s mansion in heaven…John 14:1-3…  (See link at the end for more on God’s grace)

The Apostle Paul pens this, about the perishing body, in…2 Corinthians 4:16-18… Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.  (NKJV)

I dedicate today’s writing to my friend Bill Sweeney…  Bill was diagnosed with ALS back in 1996; and though all of his physical and financial troubles, Bill is still filled with what he calls “Unshakable Hope”… Bill still writes a blog he has titled with his God given eternal hope…which should give all of us hope, especially those with physical limitations…

Bill’s outward man has all but perished, because of his loss of speech and all movement (except his eyes)…  But Bills inner spirit is still “fresh and flourishing”, because of the love of Christ with-in him, “which passes knowledge” of our mortal minds… Here is a link to explain more about Bill and ALS…    http://unshakablehope.wordpress.com/about/

And here is a link to Bills latest blog, that you can receive by e-mail if you so choose… http://unshakablehope.wordpress.com/2013/07/01/when-god-intervenes/

I would ask anyone with a prayer list and the heart to do so, to consider adding Bill Sweeney to it…  God hears our prayers, and if it is in God’s will, He will heal my friend Bill…

Heavenly Father, I thank You and praise You for who You are… I thank Your for the unending love, grace, and mercy that You show Your children…even though we don’t deserve it most of the time…  Help all of us Lord, to develop this “Unshakable Hope” that my friend Bill possesses… I pray for this fullness of Christ in all of our lives, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ,  bruce r mills
