“Making Ourselves at Home“
“And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love.” Ephesians 3:17 (NLT)
This world is an exciting place. There are always things to do, places to see, and pleasures and people to enjoy. It’s a nice place to visit, but we should never become too attached to it, because it is not our home.
Although it may not always seem like it, life in this earthly home is very transient and temporary and to be lived out on a day-to-day basis. We never know which day will be our last.
This is why we should spend our time wisely in preparing to enjoy our mansion in heaven that Jesus has gone ahead to prepare for us.
When we make ourselves at home in this world, the pains, pleasures, and cares of this world will become distractions that will disqualify us from receiving our homestead in heaven.
When we make ourselves at home with Jesus, as we live out our lives on this earth, our great homecoming will be assured, and give us strength to endure the temporary hardships we may have to suffer while passing through this veil of tears that is called life in this world.
Making ourselves at home with Jesus begins the hour we first receive Him by faith through the power of the Holy Spirit, and continues until we receive our glorified bodies and eternal homes in heaven.
As we abide in him by abiding in His Word, prayer, worship, and fellowship with other believers, we make Him at home in our hearts and enjoy the foretaste of glory that we have to look forward to when we make ourselves at home with Him in heaven.
Father, may the love of this world never overshadow my love for you and the home I have to look forward to enjoying with you forever in heaven. In Jesus’
Blessings in Christ, bruce r mills
