James 5:16Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (NKJV)
I came across this opening scripture the other day, and it got me thinking… All Christians will sin…  If we say we don’t sin, the apostle John tells us that we are blaspheming God; and that we are not Christians, in…1 John 1:10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.  (NKJV)
The important thing that Christians must do, as soon as possible after the Holy Spirit reveals that we have indeed sinned…is to confess our sins…and turn and repent of them…
1 John 1:9…  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (NKJV)
This scripture has us confessing our sins to God…and is a necessary part of every Spirit filled Christian’s daily walk, if we want to remain walking in sweet fellowship with the Lord…  Part of the 10 Commandments, list sins that we commit directly against God…  The rest are sins that we commit against one another…  Do you realize that when we harbor bitterness, or hatred, or envy, or covetousness, or jealousy, or any number of other sins against anyone else…we are really sinning against God ??
Jesus made this need to forgive others very clear, in His “Sermon on the Mount” teaching, in…Matthew 6:14-15…  For if you forgivemen theirtrespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.  (NKJV)
You can’t just go to God to seek forgiveness of your trespasses against another person…  The opening scripture clearly reveals that you must Confess your trespasses to one another in order to heal unforgiven wounds and grievances with one anotherand then your heavenly Father will also forgive you
When you think back to people in your past from the time you became a Christian, that you may have never reconciled an argument with…that you still harbor bitterness towards…that you cannot love, even when Jesus tells us we are to love even our enemies (Matthew 5:43-44)…I pray that you think long and hard to bring these unhealed wounds causing separation and pain back into you memory…  And if your really serious about healing all past trespasses, do as David did…and ask the Lord to search your heart for any sins that are still lurking there…
Psalm 139:23-24…  Search me, O God, and know my heart; Try me, and know my anxieties; 24 And see if there is any wicked way in me, And lead me in the way everlasting.  (NKJV)
If unhealed wounds and past trespasses come to mind…why don’t you call the individual that you need to make amends with, and ask them to forgive you…  This is what Jesus teaches us is required of all of His children…so that that your sins can then be forgiven by God the Father…
Heavenly Father, I pray Your Word would cut right to the soul of those of Your redeemed children who are still harboring trespasses that have never been healed…  I pray Lord, that we can all seek forgiveness from any sins against those around us, that still leave us in a state of separation from Your sweet fellowship… I pray for this reconciliation and then the fullness of Christ in all of our lives…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
Blessings in Christ,  bruce r mills

P.S.  Here is a link I reference every so often, with over 600 sins, and Bible scripture to go along with each sin…  I cannot attest to the biblical accuracy…  http://www.w3school.com/Documents/Bible_Studies/Sin_list_part_6.htm
