John 14:23Jesus answered and said to him, If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.  (NKJV)

First let me profess that today’s writing has been taken from 2 days of audio sermons by Dr. Charles Stanley, for Sept. 23 & 24, 2013…that he titles…”The Priority of Obedience – Part 1 and Part 2″…that can be found @  http://www.intouch.org/broadcast/audio-archives

I hope by now, you have bookmarked this site…  I also recently found an app for my smart phone for “In-touch Ministries”, by doing a search for…”In-touch app”, that makes it easy to listen in on Dr. Stanley’s daily messages, and so much more…

I don’t believe I enjoy listening to anyone more than I enjoy listening to Dr. Stanley present a message based on God’s Word…  Each and every 20 minute or so audio message, proves to be filled with helpful information and tips on what Christians can and must do, to live lives that will be pleasing to God…

Dr. Stanley explains that the most important key to winning God’s heart is not love, or faith, or service, or humility, or perseverance…though these are all important traits for the Christian to possess…  Jesus gives us His two most important Commandments, in…

Matthew 22:37-40…  Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”  (NKJV)

Notice Jesus’ remarks in the last verse above… On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”…   If we can keep My word“, as Jesus tells us in the opening scripture…this is paramount to obeying Jesus’ two most important Commandments… But we must be committed to loving the Lord with our whole being…not half heartedly…  We say we love the Lord in our minds…  But do we fill our hearts with the love of Christ ??  Are we so grounded and rooted with the love of Christ Jesus (Ephesians 3:16-19), that submitting to the direction of the Holy Spirit has overtaken our flesh ??

You say you love God ??  You believe that you are a Christian ??  The idea that we must be obedient children to the leading of the Holy Spirit, if someone is indeed a Christian in God’s eyes…should in no way be repulsive or objectionable…  Disobedience to what God wants from us, is rebellion against God…  Living in the will of God as His obedient children, should be looked upon with open arms…because God will only lead us in the right way for our lives…

The following scripture was penned by the wise Solomon, in…Proverbs 3:5-6Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.  (NKJV)

Living a life of obedience to the Lord, means we will always do our very best to surrender to what God wants…when He wants it…how He wants it…and for as long as He wants it…  There is no picking and choosing as to what we will obey, and what we will choose not to obey…  Partial obedience to the Lord, is disobedience…plain and simple…

Is being obedient to God easy ??  Positively not !!  It might be painful…it might be hard…we might be afraid or anxious…  But I believe God will always provide a way for us to succeed in doing His will…just like God will always give His children a way to escape the temptations set before them…1 Corinthians 10:13…

When we obediently step out in faith that God’s way is the way we must  go…God will provide us with confidence through the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit…that will give the Spirit filled Christian a supernatural peace beyond mortal understanding (Philippians 4:6-7)…a fullness of joy when the Christian is walking in the Spirit (John 15:11Colossians 1:11…&…Jude 1:24)…and the supernatural love of Christ which passes our mortal knowledge…Ephesians 3:16-19

And when the Christian is filled with the love of Christ…and yields to the awesome power of the Holy Spirit…doors will open, and lives will be transformed in ways we never though possible in our own strength…  The apostle Paul says this best, in…Ephesians 3:20Now to Him who is able to do exceedinglyabundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, I pray that Your Word, and those of Your humble servant Dr. Stanley, if listened to…would urge us through the power and the conviction of the Holy Spirit to become obedient Christians to Your will and Your ways…  I pray for this fullness of Christ in all of our lives, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ,  bruce r mills
