James 1:21… Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. (NKJV)
The season to be jolly has become the season for folly for many people. We spend billions decorating houses, trees, and for parties, but all of the glitter cannot cover the fact that what should be one of the happiest times of the year has become a time of great sadness and depression for many people.
The tendency to over spend, over eat, and over indulge
has sadly become the defining elements for the world’s celebration of Christmas.
Perhaps if we spend more time decorating our tree of life instead of the Christmas tree, we will discover the real joy of Christmas.
The ornaments of God’s grace are always available, but they too often lie unwrapped in the closets of our hearts.
We need to be ever mindful of the gift that God gave us wrapped in swaddling clothes. The gift of Christmas is no gift at all unless we appropriate it by faith, and find the glad tidings of great joy that God sent us in a lowly stable manger.
When we decorate our tree of life with the light of the world shining brightly in and through us, people will see the real reason for the season exemplified by a life well lived in Christ.
When our tree of life becomes a fruit tree of “love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22-23), people will know the glow of God’s love flowing through us not only at Christmas, but every day of every year of our lives on this earth.
Father, help me to decorate my heart with Your grace this Christmas. In Jesus’ name, Amen
