Luke 2:9-14And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of DavidaSavior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”  (NKJV)
Depending on where you are in the world…some of you have already opened your Christmas gifts…  For some, it is still early Christmas day…and the gifts are sitting under a Christmas tree all wrapped up, as you gaze at them in anticipation of what’s inside…  For some, sadly there are no gifts to unwrap…
But the best gift anyone could ever receive this day (or any day), is the gift of eternal life with God the Father in heaven, when we pass on from this short life…  Let us remember that today is a day that Christians have chosen to celebrate this special gift God sent down to earth to dwell among us…  The gift of His only Son, Christ the Lord; born in a quiet setting in a manger (Luke 2:7), in a little town called Bethlehem (to fulfill prophecy…Micah 5:2)…  Bethlehem is known in the Hebrew Bible as the city of David…
Jesus the Christ was born without all the glitz and glamour that Christmas has become to the world, today…  Born as a baby, Jesus was still born as the King…born for the sole purpose of becoming the Savior of those who by God’s pure gift of grace through saving faith alone in Him (Ephesians 2:8-9), have become a part of God’s redeemed children…
Jesus means Savior, derived from the Hebrew word Yeshua or Jeshua… (How Jesus is spelled in different languages…  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus_%28name%29 )
As Christians, I pray that we focus our attention this day on the Lord, Jesus Christ…  As we gather together to share food with family and friends…whether it is a feast to behold, or a humble meal with bare necessities to survive…let us be thankful for what God has provided for us…  And most importantly, if we are Christians…let us thank God for the greatest gift anyone could ever receive…Christ the Lord
I send warmest wishes to you and your family, and pray that your day begins and ends with God’s richest blessings…
Love in Christ,  bruce r mills
