Proverbs 8
                        “Getting High is Great!”
“Though you have not seen Him, you love Him; and even though you do not see Him now, you believe in Him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.” 1 Peter 1:8 NIV
It is amazing that so many millions of people would spend their lives “getting high” on all the wrong things.  From beer and other alcoholic beverages, to sniffing glue, smoking pot, or doing dope, many people seem to have a natural desire to “get high.”
Sometimes, it’s just for the sheer perceived fun of it. Other times, it is an escape from the reality of failures, pressures, and traumas of life.  Whatever the reason, getting high through controlled substances will lead to misery if continued.
We also find ourselves getting high on athletic, scholastic, artistic, or other performances and successes. This gives us high self esteem to cover our low view of ourselves and compensates for a lot of our weaknesses and failures.
The trouble with all of these artificial highs is that they will never last.  They will require more and more of the substance or more and more of the performance and success and give less and less satisfaction.
Giving control of our minds and bodies to a pill or a potion and refusing to give control to the higher power who created us, loves us with an everlasting love, and gives us more than enough self esteem and significance is a “no brainer.”
To spend so much time and money to “feel good” is idiotic when the highest high and greatest feeling in the world is available free of charge.
When we “get high” on Jesus, we are filled with the power of the Holy Spirit, and we are freed to soar in the heavens of hope and swim in the oceans of love. Our lives are filled with joy, peace, meaning, and purpose.
Father, let me know the joy of “getting high” on You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
