Matthew 6:9-10…  After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thyname. 10 Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is inheaven.  (KJV)
I was listening to a 2 part audio sermon the other day by Alistair Begg…where he was teaching the importance of truly understanding the words…“Hallowed Be Your Name”…  It brought back memories of a writing I did several months ago, that I titled, “Hallowed Prayer”…that can be found @ www.Godsmanforever.com by typing 5/21/2013 into the search window…
From that days writing, until nowwhen I kneel before the Lord in my morning prayer, and at night before I crawl into bed, I always use these precious words when praying to the Lord…“Hallowed be Thy Name”…as I stop and contemplate the word “Hallowed”, and what it means to me before I pray…
Alistair Begg went a few steps further in explaining the significance of what “Hallowed” should mean to us as Christians, when we verbally or mentally use the word God or Lord in our everyday living and our prayers…when we worship the Lord in church…and when we witness to those around us about the “good news” gospel of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, that Jesus has commanded all of His redeemed children to share with those around them in need of God’s saving grace…
You could stop right here, and click on the links below; and spend the time listening to Alistair Beggs two sermons…and hopefully come away with a much better understanding as I did, of how the Christian should view the words…“Hallowed be Thy Name”…
Alistair posed the question…“What do the words Hallowed Be Your Name” mean to each and every one of us…  Stop and think for a moment, yourself…  If we are Christians, the way we answer this question will go along way in determining how God views us, and the level of spiritual maturity we possess…
Jesus knew exactly what Hallowed meant, as He was teaching those surrounding Him on the “Sermon on the Mount” how to pray to His Father in heaven, in the opening scripture…  We also see Jesus teaching His disciples how to pray to His Father, starting with the same words “Hallowed be Thy Name”, in…Luke 11:2-4…
Hallowed is defined in many ways…  But when it comes to God, I believe it describes God’s position as the all powerful Creator of heaven and earth, who is both omnipotent and omnipresent; and who we should be showing reverence and adoration to…proclaiming all the glory and the praise that God so richly deserves…  The word “Hallowed” sets the preeminence in our mortal minds, of who we as Christians are about to worship in prayer…
When it comes to worshiping the Lord in church (as well as in our personal prayers)…having a deep, intimate, personal one on One relationship with the Lord is mandatory, before we can know God as our Father…  And more importantly, before God recognizes us as His redeemed child…  God graces the unredeemed sinner with salvation through saving faith alone in His Son Jesus Christ…Ephesians 2:8-9… This is accomplished after God first draws a sinner to Himself…John 6:44…  And through understanding and obedience to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, God receives the new believer into His heavenly kingdom…  (See note at the end for more on God’s saving grace)
I spent a day writing in detail about what it means to worship God in vain, titled “Vain Worship”…that can be found @ www.Godsmanforever.com by typing 5/21/2013 into the search window…  True worship was described by Jesus, when He tells us this, in…John 4:23-24…  “But the hour is coming, and now is, when the trueworshipers will worship the Fatherinspiritandtruth; for the Father is seekingsuch to worshipHim. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worshipHimmustworship in spiritandtruth.”  (NKJV)
As I explained in my writing “Vain Worship”, worshiping the Lord in spiritandtruthmeans we are worshiping the Lord in the Spirit…by allowing the Holy Spirit to take total control of all that we say and do, after we arefilled with the SpiritEphesians 5:18-20
Our whole purpose as a Christian is to show honor and glory to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, in everything that we say and do…1 Corinthians 10:31…  When we worship the Lord in spiritandtruth at our church, our minds will be focused upon glorifying the Lord…and not on ourselves…  It’s not about whether we sang songs that we liked…  It’s not about whether we met our friends…  It’s not about whether we liked the sermon that was preached…  When we step out of church, the question is… “Was God pleased with the way we worshiped and glorified Him ??”
Jesus tells us this, when He says…the trueworshipers will worship the Fatherinspiritandtruth; for the Father is seekingsuch to worshipHim.”
There is no better scripture that I can think of; to show how a Spirit filled Christian should worship, than what the apostle Paul pens, in… Ephesians 5:18-20And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; butbefilledwith the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and makingmelody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for allthings to God the Father in the name of ourLordJesusChrist(NKJV)
With the Holy Spirit in total control of our lives…He will help us truly understand that “Hallowed be Thy Name” goes hand in hand with worshiping the Fatherinspiritandtruth…  The Holy Spirit will intercede for us to help us pray…Romans 8:26-27…  The Holy Spirit will help us to understand God’s Word (1 Corinthians 2:11-16…as scripture is read, or preached in our church…  Being filled with the Holy Spirit will have you singing and makingmelody in your heart to the Lord, as we see in this scripture above…
The apostle Paul writes about the heart of a Spirit filled Christian, as he pens this hope for the believers at the church in Ephesus, in…Ephesians 3:17-19that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height19 toknow the love of Christwhichpassesknowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.  (NKJV)
Friends there is no better feeling than that experienced by the Christian who is walking in sweet fellowship with the Lord, with a heart that is brimming with the love of Christwhichpassesknowledge… This peace of God, which surpassesallunderstanding(from…Philippians 4:6-7)…and the fullness of joyexperienced because of Christ’s joy in us (John 15:11)…will truly “set your feet to dancing and set your heart on fire”just like Chris Tomlin sings in his song “Be Glorified”…  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QE2EpmP5Oqo
Heavenly Father, help each of us as Christians understand the true meaning of the words “Hallowed be Thy Name”, used by Your Son Jesus Christ…as the filling of the Holy Spirit confirms that we are indeed one of Your redeemed children…Romans 8:15-16…  Help us Lord to walk in Your will and Your ways through obedience to the Holy Spirit…as we do our best to abide in Your love (John 15:9-15), in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
Blessings in Christ,  bruce r mills
