“A False Sense of Security” – Part 2

(Revised from 5/25/2013)

Matthew 7:21-23… “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’” (NKJV)

Continuing on from yesterday, with how God through His inerrant Word, The Bible, explains a second category of false faith. This occurs, where the “want to be Christian” has not responded to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, that must be understood and obeyed…to be justified by faith in God’s eyes…Romans 5:1… Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, (NKJV)

These people, if they believe they are Christians without obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ (2 Thessalonians 1:8-9) , have fallen prey to one of many false doctrine that has been preached…in some cases for centuries. One such false doctrine, teaches that sins are forgiven by mere men, or by any other god besides God Himself. And that a list of works done in the name of the Lord, must be performed to become a Christian.

This “works based” salvation that is falsely preached…was warned against by Jesus Himself, as recorded in the opening scripture. These false Christians are standing at the gates of heaven, when the Lord tells them that He never knew them as His redeemed child…and that they must be turned away, forever separated from God in Hell.

Often times, children grow up in the same faith as their parents…and their grandparents before them. They spend little or no time in the Bible…where God gives us the truth through His Word, on just what is needed to become a Christian in God’s eyes. It takes a personal one on One relationship with the Lord, which isn’t passed down or inherited from anyone else.

There is nothing the sinner can bring to the table, to have their sins forgiven by God. The unredeemed sinner must be first drawn in by the God (John 6:44)…understanding that they can in no way save themselves from eternal damnation. This grace given by God, is through believing and receiving Jesus Christ as one’s personal Lord and Savior…through saving faith alone ( also given by God – Ephesians 2:8-9) in Jesus Christ.

This occurs after God regenerates the heart of the sinner. The shed blood of Jesus Christ at the cross, cleanses the stone heart of the sinner…as Christ’s righteousness is imputed with-in the unredeemed sinner’s heart by God, at the same time their sins are forgiven…Philippians 3:9…&…2 Corinthians 5:21… (See note at the end for more on God’s grace, through obedience to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ)

Jesus tells us Himself, that we must go through Him in order to get to be with His Father in heaven when we die, in…John 14:6Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (NKJV) The way is through obedience to the gospel of Jesus Christ… The truth is found in the Word of God, and it will set the sinner free from Satan’s chains of bondage in sin…John 8:32“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” And the life that Jesus speaks of, is eternal life in heaven with His Father.

And let’s not forget the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, given to the new child of God at the moment God graces them with salvation…John 14:26… This life changing experience, with the Holy Spirit confirming my salvation, was for me…just as scripture reveals in…

Romans 8:15-16… For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, (NKJV)

I can remember the date and the time God graced me with salvation. Praise the Lord for His longsuffering in my life !! The change in my life was just as dramatic as scripture reveals, in…

2 Corinthians 5:17Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. (NKJV)

There should be a definite change in the life of a believer…with God being first and foremost, at the center of a Christians life. The material things one possesses should become less important, as the Christian focuses their life on God. Once the dependency on God becomes an everyday part of the Christian’s life…and they allow the Holy Spirit to direct their every step…they will be well on their way to the process of progressive sanctification. God will conform His children into the image of His Son, Jesus Christ…Romans 8:29

Heavenly Father, I pray that You would draw those in need of seeing and hearing the truth from Your Word to Yourself (John 6:44). I pray that Your living and powerful Word, would cut right to the very core of the souls in need of seeing and hearing Your truth…Hebrews 4:12-13… I pray that the hearts and lives of all of us would be committed to living in Your will and Your ways…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ, bruce
