“Time’s a Wasting”

Revised from 3/21/2013 by bruce

1 Thessalonians5:2-3… For you yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so comes as a thief in the night. 3 For when they say, “Peace and safety!” then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape. (NKJV)

Many years ago, I remember being woken up by my wife at around 4:30 a.m., with her telling me she heard someone walking around downstairs !! Sure enough, there was a thief who had broken into my house in the night. We called the police, and they came quickly and caught the guy, and hauled him off.

A thief in the night should provoke fear in the hearts of all of us; just like it did to my wife and me. But when it refers to Jesus, for some of us it will be a day of joy. Jesus’ second coming is compared to a thief in the night, in 5 places that I could find in the Bible. The opening scripture…&…2 Peter 3:10…&…Revelation 3:3…&…16:15 Jesus also speaks of His return, telling us only His Father knows when that day and hour will be, in…Matthew 24:36

Jesus goes on a little later and says this, as recorded in…

Matthew 24:42-44… Watch therefore, for you do not know what hour your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not allowed his house to be broken into. 44 Therefore you also be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. (NKJV)

All of those people still living in the world of sin and shame, with Satan as their father (John 8:44)…are there for any number of reasons. They don’t believe that God exists…they have no fear of God, and His impending wrath (Romans 2:5)…they have heard the gospel message, and deem their own material possessions (Mark 10:17-27) and/or the enjoyment of lustful sinning, more than making a commitment to repent and seek Christ with ALL of their heart, ALL of their mind, and ALL of their soul.

This would be someone hearing the gospel as described by Jesus, in Jesus’ parable of the 4 soils, in…Matthew 13:22… as the seed planted in the 3rd soil)…or maybe they feel they have plenty of time later to obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ; and they want to sow their wild oats, before they settle down and live for the Lord.

These unredeemed sinners should be trembling at the thought of Jesus’ second coming.

Friends, we are not guaranteed that there will be a tomorrow in our lives…Proverbs 27:1Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what a day may bring forth. (NKJV)

Jesus tells us that we are to “be ready” for His return, in the scripture above. We see this idea of seeking the Lord, way back in the Old Testament, in…Isaiah 55:6Seek the Lord while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near. (NKJV)

Seeking the Lord for salvation, should not be put off. One’s eternal destiny rests in their responding to the gospel call of Jesus Christ, after God has drawn them to Himself. (John 6:44) The Apostle Paul reminds us that now is the time, and now is the day of salvation, in…2 Corinthians 6:1-2

If you die before God has redeemed you as one of His children…you will die in your sins (John 8:24)…and you will suffer a second death in the dreaded lake of fire, for an eternity.

Revelation 20:14-15… Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. (NKJV)

Don’t be like one of those unredeemed sinners that the Apostle Paul writes about in the opening scripture. They thought there lives were going along in “Peace and safety”, and then WHAM !! “destruction comes upon them, And they shall not escape.”…

Receiving God’s grace is accomplished through obedience to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. Here is a link for this most important days writing, about how God’s grace is received to become a Christian in God’s eyes… https://godsmanforever.com/2014/10/26/the-truth-about-sin-10262014-by-bruce-reposted-from-7112013

Friends, if you are reading these words, and you feel like you may be in grave danger if you were to pass on from this life today…it just might be God urging you to spend some serious time finding out about what this obedience to the gospel of Christ is all about, which is the Apostle Paul clearly warns us must be obeyed, in this following scripture…

2 Thessalonians 1:8-9 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, (NKJV)

We see this word “destruction” in both the opening scripture, and in this eye opening scripture, directly from God’s inerrant Word, the Bible. But if you are a Christian in God’s eyes, the Apostle Paul continues the opening scripture with this, in…

1 Thessalonians 5:4-6But you, brethren, are not in darkness, so that this Day should overtake you as a thief. 5 You are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. 6 Therefore let us not sleep, as others do, but let us watch and be sober. (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, I pray that Your Word would open the eyes and the ears of those who have heard but not obeyed the gospel of Your Son Jesus Christ. I pray that Your Word would be planted in fertile soil today, like Jesus tells us will be nurtured by You, with those who have ears to hear and to understand, in…

Matthew 13:23“But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.” (NKJV)   I pray for Your grace to fall upon all of those who obey Your Word…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ, bruce
