Revive Me, O Lord !!”

Psalm 143:11-12…  Revive me, O Lord, for Your name’s sake!    For Your righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble. 12 In Your mercy cut off my enemies, And destroy all those who afflict my soul; For I am Your servant.   (NKJV)

This Psalm was written by King David, who wrote half of the Book of Psalms…  David (first seen in the Bible as young David, the shepherd boy who slayed Goliath – 1 Samuel 17), was a man after God’s own heart…

Acts 13:22And when He had removed him, He raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’  (NKJV)

When I read this scripture the other day…what jumped out at me, was the fact that David was asking the Lord to help him in his time of trouble…  And yet he acknowledges that the Lord is to be glorified, and not David…  How many of us (me included) would have said “Revive me O Lord, for my sake…  David knew his place when he was praying to the Lord…  He remained a humble servant to God, as we see at the end of verse 12… ‘For I am Your servant.’

This is an important lesson for all of God’s redeemed children…  Everything we say…everything we do…should be done to give honor and glory to the Lord…  It’s not about us…  When we get that new car, or that promotion at work…it is because God has given it to us… Yes, we might have worked hard for what we are given…  But we must always remember that every good gift…every blessing…comes from God…

James 1:16-17 …  Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. (NKJV)

God must be first in our lives, or we will be sinning, and out of fellowship with the Lord…  Anything that we place above God, as most important in our lives…goes against God’s first two Commandments…

1)  Exodus 20:3…  “You shall have no other gods before Me.”  (NKJV)

2)  Exodus 20:4-5...  “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,  (NKJV)

When we do our best to keep God first in our lives, loving Him with ALL of our heart, our mind, and our soul…and then loving others as we love ourselves…everything else in life will take care of itself…

Matthew 22:37-40…  Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’  38 This is the first and great commandment.  39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’  40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” (NKJV)

Why was David a man after God’s own heart ??  Scripture tells us, in…

Acts 13:22b‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will.’  (NKJV)

When we give honor and praise to the Lord…even for the little things in life (1 Corinthians 10:31)…we will be doing as David did…  Can we call ourselves servants of the Lord ??  Only if we remain humble, and acknowledge that all that we have is a gift from God…

Heavenly Father, I pray that we as your redeemed children, would seek to give You the praise and the glory that You so richly deserve…  I pray that we can keep Christ at the center of all that we say and so…  And that the light of Christ with-in us, will be seen by those in need of hearing the good news of the message of the cross…  I pray Lord, that those in need of Your saving grace, would ask us about this hope of glory they see in us (Colossians 1:27)…  And that we would be prepared to share the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ with them…  I pray for this boldness in Jesus’ most precious name, and for His sake…

Blessings in Christ,  bruce
