“Eat Your Bread for a Healthy Spiritual   Life”

Written by bruce r. mills for www.Godsmanforever.com

Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’” (NKJV)

The opening scripture has Jesus speaking to Satan, using O.T. scripture (Deuteronomy 8:3) to foil the temptations of the evil one…  Just like Christ, we as Christians can foil the attacks of Satan, and our own carnal flesh (always trying to tempt us into sinning), if we rely on God’s Word (Christ Himself – John 1:1-4,14) to teach us how to protect us from ALL evil…

I often write about the need for the Christian to put on, and keep wearing, ALL of God’s six piece set of spiritual armor, that the apostle Paul writes about in Ephesians 6:10-20…and the need to totally submit to God (James 4:7-8), in order to keep the temptations to sin in check…  I call this combination…”God’s Duo”…  For more on a days writing centered around these 2 pieces of scripture, read my writing titled “God’s Duo”…   [see 1) below]

It is the Word of God (the Bible), that the apostle Paul calls the “sword of the Spirit” (in Ephesians 6:17); where all 6 pieces of God’s spiritual armor can be learned about, and put on piece by piece…  The Bible is the only offensive weapon of these 6 pieces of protective armor…  The other 5 pieces are defensive only in nature…

But to learn about, and put on God’s protective spiritual armor (the Lord Jesus Christ Himself – Romans 13:14), we must read, study, and meditate on God’s Word…

If you are a Christian that wants to learn how to live as a disciple of Jesus Christ (and all Christians should)…you must spend time (hopefully daily) in the Bible…  Jesus tells us this in His own words, in…

John 8:31-32…  Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. 32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”  (NKJV)

This freedom Jesus is speaking about in this scripture, first comes to the new believer, when chains are broken from Satan’s bonds of sin and shame…  This happens the moment the un-believer is graced with salvation by God…becoming a Christian in God’s eyes…  [See 2) at the end, for more on God’s gift of grace]

But once saved…the Christian who wants to be blessed by God’s richest rewards (Hebrews 11:6), must seek to grow in spiritually maturity, as a never ending life long process called “progressive sanctification”…  [see 3) below for more]

This is how we as Christians are to be conformed over a lifetime, into the image of Christ…Romans 8:29…&…2 Corinthians 3:18

This is done through constant prayer…attending church and maybe a Bible study…and most importantly by reading God’s Word daily, and meditating on it…  This brings me to the reason for today’s writing…

There are dozens of ways you can go about systematically reading the entire Bible in one year…  If you have never done this…I urge you to consider starting this New Year of 2016, by doing just that !!  There are many apps and numerous systems sent by e-mail, to help you go about reading the Bible in a year…  It should not, however…be thought of as something on a checklist, where you can check off that you read your Bible today…

Spending time daily in God’s Word, will help you learn more and more about God…and His will for your life…  As you draw closer to God…He will draw closer to you…James 4:7-8…  By confessing all sins on a regular basis (1 John 1:9), and doing your best to remain filled with the Holy Spirit…Ephesians 5:18-20…walking with the Lord as a Spirit filled Christian will bring a real God given peace beyond mortal understanding (Philippians 4:6-7), and a fullness of joy (John 15:11), not found any other way !!   [see 3) below]

I have come across an amazing app that can be found by searching…”Read the Bible in one year”…looking for a big red “B”, and BiOY…  it is also available by e-mail @ http://www.bibleinoneyear.org/

Not only does it list scripture from Psalms or Proverbs, and another O.T and a N.T piece of scripture to read…it has a 10 minute or so audio, done by Nicky and Pippa Gumbel, which allows me to sit back and truly absorb some good commentary on what these verses mean…  I can’t tell U how much I look forward to listening to their commentary, to go along with reading God’s amazing Word !!

I just had to spend a day telling you just how much I believe you will be blessed…by trying out this unique way of reading (and listening to) the Bible in a year !!

Blessings in Christ,  bruce
