          “How to love the unlovable”

Written by bruce r. mills @  www.Godsmanforever.com

Colossians 3:12-14Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. (NKJV)

There is much scripture where God’s Word is teaching us just how important it is to forgive others who have sinned against us, or who have grieved us in various ways…   (see 1. at the end for 20 verses on forgiving others)

Jesus tells Peter this, in…Matthew 18:21-22Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” 22 Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven. (NKJV)

Seventy times seven  basically means that we should always forgive others, over and over again, forever…no matter how much they aggravate us, or repeat the same grievous offense against us…

How is this possible, to be able to show others love, when you don’t feel like loving them ?? Only by the power of the Holy Spirit living within us, if we are a Christian…  The apostle Paul reveals this in the opening scripture, when he pens this… But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.”

I see this putting on love, meaning the same thing as the apostle Paul telling us to put on the Lord Jesus Christ, in…   Romans 13:14But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts. (NKJV)    When your heart is filled with the love of Christ, you WILL  be able to love others, as Christ loves you…

I am reminded of this scripture, penned by the apostle Peter, in… 1 Peter 4:8-10And above all things have fervent love for one another, for love will cover a multitude of sins.” 9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling. 10 As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. (NKJV)

The important point of this scripture… love will cover a multitude of sins.”, is that when our heart is filled with the love of Christ…His love filling us will enable us show others love…even when we are not capable of showing them love in our own flesh…

When we as Christians have unconfessed sins…we are living in rebellion to God’s will for our lives…  When we are urged by the Holy Spirit to share our testimony, or the gospel of Christ to those in need…and we don’t…we are sinning by what is called “the sin of omission” (James 4:17 – Read more about this less known sin, in 2. Below)   So confess any and all sins before the Lord…1 John 1:9…  If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.   (NKJV)

And then by living a Christ centered life, as you are walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16), with the Holy Spirit in total control of your life…you WILL, by the power of the Holy Spirit, be able to love the unlovable…

Dear heavenly Father, I pray that Your living and powerful Word (Hebrews 4:12-13), would cut right to the bone today…to show those in need of living a Spirit filled life, the benefit of the supernatural power of the Holy Spirit…  You have given ALL Christians this mostly untapped power, to help live their lives for You…  I pray we would all do our best to walk in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16), living lives that will bring You glory…in Jesus’ most precious name…Amen…

Blessings in Christ, bruce
