1 Corinthians 12:17-18… If the whole body were an eye, where would be the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where would be the smelling? 18 But now God has set the members, each one of them, in the body just as He pleased. (NKJV)
How much do you know about spiritual gifts; and where they come from ?? The Apostle Paul writes this, to the believers in the church of Corinth, in…
1 Corinthians 12:1… Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant: (NKJV)
I know people that either don’t bother going to church; or they pride themselves for going to the same church for years, but don’t get involved. I’m not here to judge anyone; but out of my love for everyone, I am writing to shed some light about what God reveals to us, through His inerrant Word, the Bible. If we consider ourselves to be a Christian, it is our responsibility to find out what pleases God, and what displeases God.
In regards to going to church, vs. staying home for no good reason…if we are one of God’s redeemed children, God tells us this, in…
Hebrews 10:24… And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (NKJV)
You can’t encourage fellow brother and sisters in Christ, as you fellowship together with a church body of believers…by watching a pastor preach a sermon on the TV, or the internet. I’m not talking about the elderly, or those who are home because of illness. But skipping church if you’re a Christian, without a reasonable excuse, cannot be pleasing to God. David knew this, when he wrote this, in…
Psalm 133:1… Behold, how good and how pleasant it is For brethren to dwell together in unity! (NKJV)
Becoming part of a church body of believers, should give you a sense of belonging to a loving family.
God doesn’t want us to just go to church every week; and then forget about Him the other 6 days. And when we go to the same church for years and years, it should not only be because we have found a church that has love you can feel in everyone around you…it should be because you have found a body of believers, that works together with the same common goal. The ideal church would have Christians plugged into a church body, where the majority of the brethren use whatever spiritual gift or gifts the Holy Spirit has given them…to become a unified body bringing honor and glory to Christ…the Head of the body (church).
Yes…a Christian’s spiritual gift is given to them by the Holy Spirit, as He wills…
1 Corinthians 12:11… But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills. (NKJV)
Sometimes a Christian’s spiritual gift coincides with their occupation or talent. Sometimes the Holy Spirit urges us to get involved in the church body, doing something that is outside of our comfort zone. But when we are urged by the Holy Spirit to get involved, God will give us what we need to help build up His body of believers.
The Apostle Paul writes this, in…
Ephesians 4:15-16… but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— 16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love. (NKJV)
Some time ago, I wrote about the greatest gift a Christian, and the church body must have, in order to grow in both love and the physical numbers of its members. The answer is found in the last part of this scripture…“causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.” I touched on the spiritual gifts of believers; and how a church could be snuffed out by Christ, if love for Him and our fellow brethren is not present. Here is the link for this writing.
Becoming part of a well oiled body of believers in a church body, which do their best to use their spiritual gifts for the glory of the Lord, and for the edification of their fellow brothers and sisters in Christ…will give the Christian a sense of belonging…and a feeling of “joy” you will never experience, if you go to church and never get plugged in.
I will close with these instructions that the Apostle Paul gave to the church in Philippi, in…
Philippians 2:1-4… Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. (NKJV)
Heavenly Father, I pray that these instructions from Your Word, will motivate Your children to get plugged into a church that is living and vibrant; as the love of Christ and the growth of the church through selfless love becomes the norm, instead of the exception. I pray Lord, that as Your children get plugged into a Bible believing church…that their own light will shine like never before (Matthew 5:16). I pray for this unity of the Spirit for all of Your children, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…
Blessings in Christ, bruce
