Educating Your Head at the Expense of Your Heart

                            By Patrick Hawthorne

Indeed, this is a sad commentary on the state of the Church.  Are we, the Body of Christ, educating our heads at the expense of our heart?  Remember back to the days when you were first born again, before religion had the opportunity to sink its insidious talons into your born again baby flesh?  We had faith to grab the moon; we had faith to move mountains.  But then something happened.  We became educated.  We allowed the teachings of man to set the bar on how high we should believe.

Education is not a bad thing.   However, education at the expense of our heart – at the expense of our personal relationship with our Lord Jesus – is idolatry.

“Assuredly, I say to you, unless you change and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.”  (Matthew 18:3)

Children will reach for the stars.  Children are willing to believe beyond their capabilities.  If you have ever seen a child pray for another, there is no pretense; there is no formality.  There is only faith.  There is only hope for the thing which cannot be seen to be manifested in the natural.

A little child has not been educated into believing that miracles, signs, and wonders have passed away.  They have not learned man’s teachings that God will not do for some as He has done for others.  They have not learned the limitations set by man’s doctrine.  If God did it in the Bible, they believe…period.

Yes, as I write this I feel a deep sadness.  I have prayed for the Lord to break my heart for what breaks His.  Now, I’m beginning to understand what He meant when He asked if I was ready to be inconvenienced by the answers to my prayers.  Be blessed.

  1. Matthew 18:2-4, “Then Jesus called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them, and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

The innocence of faith and the innocent accepting of One you recognize in authority as being right and truthful! Do we STILL believe with innocence what the Lord tells us is TRUTH? If we have lost that treasure, then the fastest way to regain it, is to hit our knees (metaphorically) and to HUMBLY ask the Father who will give us ALL things in His will to restore that childlike innocence AND wonder that comes directly from His Spirit!!

I am like Brother Patrick when he says he is saddened by the state of affairs in the Church today. YET – just like with Elijah when we feel alone, as depicted in 1Kings 19:13-14, and hide in the personal cave of our own making, or Heavenly Father, God ALMIGHTY responds as He did back then, 1Kings 19:18, “Yet I have reserved seven thousand in Israel, all whose knees have not bowed to Baal, and every mouth that has not kissed him.”

Our Loving Father is ever FAITHFUL to remind us that we are NOT alone in our prayers and our dedication to Him and that we truly to belong to a vibrant and living Church, one governed and led by His Holy Spirit and moving forward in Him!!! We can be sad at the numbers we see falling by the wayside, but we can be heartened that our GOD STILL reigns sovereign and His REIGN WILL endure!!!

We NEED to be reminded of this, time and time again and individually we need to express our sadness, for it is that expression that cries out to the Father and He HEARS our cries!!! But then, we need to also cast aside the tears and realize, He created each of us with a purpose and His will shall see that purpose fulfilled!!!!

Great article which spoke to my heart and spirit, yet also reminded me that I (as well as each of you) am NOT alone in our journey or fight!
