“Protect Your Heart from Satan’s Attacks (Day 7)

Ephesians 6:14b… having put on the breastplate of righteousness,  (NKJV)

Some regular readers might be wondering why I posted this opening scripture yesterday, and never wrote about “the breastplate of righteousness,” …   This is because, as I started to write yesterday, the Holy Spirit led me off of what I wanted to write about…  When you are walking in the Spirit, you are to let the Holy Spirit lead you…

The “Our Daily Bread” I read this morning was about the…23rd Psalm… I am sure most of you know this scripture, possibly by heart… 1. “The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”…  Today’s devotion was telling us that we must let the Lord be our Shepherd, if we want what David writes in the last verse…  “6. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.”

Some would call this just a coincidence, that this scripture popped up in front of me this morning…  I say God is reinforcing the fact that He must be in control of our lives…  If we want to please God, we must be led by the Holy Spirit in everything we say and do…  We must submit our lives to God, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide us, to be filled with the Holy Spirit…  We just don’t automatically walk in the Spirit…  But this wearing all of “The Whole Armor of God”, is essential, once God fills us with the Holy Spirit…to have any chance of defending ourselves from Satan’s attacks and our own evil flesh…

As I have written in the previous 5 days…there are 6 pieces to God’s full set of protective spiritual armor… [If this is your first day of reading about God’s armor, stop and read the link in 1. below, for the apostle Paul’s writing on “The Whole Armor of God”]

We must wear all 6 pieces of God’s spiritual armor, or Satan will find that chink in our armor, and try to pull any child of God away from the leading of the Holy Spirit…   Satan will never keep any of God’s children from spending an eternity in that promised room in God’s mansion…John 14:2-3…    But Satan’s objective will always be to try and find that chink in the armor of God’s children’s, to keep them from being effective Christians…  I would also add, that God will be free to bless us with His richest blessings, if we consistently do our best to walk in the Spirit…Galatians 5:16

This “breastplate of righteousness” becomes a very important piece of God’s protective spiritual armor…  Every Christian’s righteousness is given to them by God when their heart, mind, and soul are filled with the Holy Spirit at the time of salvation…

The apostle Paul pens this, in…2 Corinthians 5:21…   For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.  (ESV)

Believers are graced by God with the gift of salvation, making them forever positionally righteous in God’s eyes… To live a righteous life from a practical standpoint, means we are living a life that is pleasing to God…  To remain righteous in God’s eyes, we must not let Satan back into our lives…

The heart is considered by most people, to be the most important part of their body…  When the heart stops pumping the life supporting blood to every cell in our body, (except for the cornea of the eye !!), we are considered dead…

The Roman soldier’s breastplate included a back plate as well as a breastplate…The “breastplate of righteousness” protects the heart and other vital organs from Satan’s attacks from both our front as well as our backs…   When Christians take off this “breastplate of righteousness”, they leave their heart and other vital organs open to Satan’s attacks, allowing his temptations to bring about sinning…  We must be led by the Holy Spirit, and never by our own desires, or Satan’s temptations to sin…

The first chapter written by the Apostle James, is full of advice for maintaining the “breastplate of righteousness…  See 2. Below for the link to this scripture, for some extra reading…

James warns us about following our desires, instead of what the Holy Spirit is urging us to do, in…

James 1:14-15… But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. 15 Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. (NKJV)

Heavenly Father, I thank You again for the leading of the Holy Spirit in today’s writing… I pray Father, that this study on “The Whole Armor of God”, would be used by You to open the eyes of all of Your children… Father, I ask for help for all of us; to understand the need for, and then to seek and then put on ALL of Your protective spiritual armor…and to keep it on…24/7…  And I will thank You now in Jesus’ most precious name, for any and all lives that Your Word will change…Amen…

Blessings in Christ, bruce
