“The Blame Game”

Revised from 9/09/2013 by bruce r. mills for “God’s group” @

Luke 23:34Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. (NKJV)

The opening scripture has Jesus speaking, as He hangs on the cross at
Calvary near the end of His mortal life… Jesus tells His Father to
forgive the elders, scribes, Pharisees, and the rest of the Jews and others
who wanted to see Jesus suffer and die on the cross…

I don’t know of any better example for not holding a grudge, or for not
blaming those who were crucifying Jesus, than Jesus’ testimony showing
forgiveness to all of His enemies, right before His death on the cross…

There is absolutely, positively no excuse or reason a Christian can provide,
that the Lord would find acceptable, after they blame someone or something
else to cover their sins…

This “blame game” started way back in the Garden of Eden, when Adam blamed his sin of eating the forbidden apple on Eve…and Eve blamed the serpent (Satan) for deceiving her into eating from the only tree in the Garden of Eden (the tree of the knowledge of good and evil) that God strictly forbid
them from touching…Genesis 2:16-17

God didn’t accept Adam and Eve’s use of blaming another back then…and God won’t accept our use of blame now, as we try to shift responsibility for our actions upon someone or something else to cover our sins…

Christians are responsible for their actions at all times… Christians are
given free will by God, but their response to anyone or any adverse
situation that comes before them, should always be made in a godly manner… Are we successful at this ?? Heck no!!  It is never easy to show love and forgiveness as a response to anger, or resentment, or bitterness, or persecution towards us…

But Jesus tells His children this, in…Matthew 5:44“But I say to you,
love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,”
(NKJV)

I believe every true Christian should always want to obey Jesus’
commands…but we are incapable in our own strength to be able to please the Lord in difficult times… This is why God gave His children the Holy
Spirit, to live with-in the Christian as their life long Helper…John
14:26

After salvation, if the Christian remains filled with the Holy
Spirit (Ephesians 5:18-20), the Holy Spirit will give the Christian the power to defeat Satan, and our own fleshly desire to be tempted to sin……

But a Christian cannot remain walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16), and respond to any atrocity that comes before them with anything but love… This power to overcome evil with good is only possible, when the Holy Spirit has total control of the Christian’s life… This total submission to the leading of the Holy Spirit is what produces the fruit of the Spirit that the Apostle
Paul teaches us about, in…

Galatians 5:22-23But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace,
longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness,
self-control. Against such there is no law.
(NKJV)

No one can make us say or do anything (not even Satan), if we rely on the
power of the Holy Spirit to overcome evil with good…Romans 12:21… God
is always faithful to His children to never allow temptations to sin come
before them, without providing a way for Christians to escape them…1
Corinthians 10:13

So if you are a Christian, the next time you think about blaming someone or
something for the sin in your life…”Think Jesus” instead… Think about
what Jesus would say or do if He were in your shoes… Blame is never a
cure for the Christian… Blame encourages sin… Blame creates disharmony
at home, at work, and between friends… And blame will break the sweet
fellowship of walking in the Spirit as a Christian, until this sin is
confessed and repented of…

1 John 1:9  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  (ESV)

Are you a Christian presently holding grudges, or resentment against someone you are blaming for a wrong done to you in the past ?? May I suggest that you go to that person, and seek to make amends with them…Ephesians 4:32You will never be righteous in God’s eyes until this resentment or grudge has been resolved…  [Note:  I am speaking of our practical righteousness before God…  Our positional righteousness is always perfect, because God sees Christ’s righteousness given to us the moment we trust Christ to become our personal Lord and Savior]

Jesus tells us this, in…Matthew 6:14-15“For if you forgive men their
trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”
(NKJV)

Friends, this is a real easy Christian concept that Jesus is teaching us in
these 2 verses… If you want the Lord to forgive you of your
trespasses…you must first forgive others of theirs… I came across the
following EXCELLENT link that discusses…Matthew 6:14-15… But it also discussed the fact that any unconfessed sin will separate the Christian from walking in sweet fellowship with the Lord…

http://www.gotquestions.org/forgive-forgiven.html  (I always find answers
this site provides to be right on target to what God teaches us through His
inerrant Word, the Bible)

Heavenly Father, help all of Your children to see the simple truth of Your
Word… Urge us Lord, through the power and the conviction of the Holy
Spirit…to not only forgive others of their trespasses against us…but to
also to seek Your forgiveness of any unconfessed sins… Help us Lord, to
turn and repent of these sins, to again become practically righteous in Your
sight… I pray for this fullness of Christ in all of our lives, in Jesus’
most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ, bruce
