Hope Discovery of the Day:

We will not be shaken when we know where our help comes from.

Scripture of the Day:

1 Thessalonians 3:2-3

“We sent Timothy, our brother and fellow worker for God in the gospel of Christ, to strengthen you and encourage you about your faith, 3 so that no one would be shaken by these afflictions. For you yourselves know that we are destined for this.”

What a recruitment speech, right? We are destined for afflictions. Ya wanna sign up? Probably not. And yet to not know this truth – that we will face affliction in this life – is a lot more painful route. Being caught off guard with painful life circumstances is traumatizing and causes disillusionment because our expectations are in the wrong place. Expecting troubles in this world, on the other hand, we are able to prepare for the inevitable unknown by waiting on our God.

Afflictions were intended to make us uncomfortable enough to shake us out of mediocrity and apathy. But we don’t have to be shaken by them. We can have peace and strength, acquired by crying out to the One Who demonstrated how to walk through affliction with victory.

So what does this crying out look like? Perseverance. Holding tight to the promises of God. Praying earnestly. Journaling. Not missing a day of reading the Bible – it is our very life. Going to church to be around God’s people. Just like Timothy encouraged the believers who were going through hard times, we need each other. Don’t be an island.

Christ promised we would have troubles, but He also said we could have peace in the midst. This sounds crazy to a culture that despises any pain. Although we will likely never adore challenges, when we see the prize of a deeper abiding relationship with God and experience the supernatural help from our great God, we are shook but not shaken and we are able to have courage and strength abundantly more than we could ever imagine.

John 16:33

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Lord, thank You for giving us peace and strength to endure in this life. Help us to trust in You at all times so we will not be shaken and can help the world around us to depend on You, too.
