“Do You Dare to Ask God to Search Your Heart ??”

Psalm 139:23-24…  Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
24 And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!
  (ESV)

In the opening scripture, we see King David, asking God to search his heart, and to show him any sins that may be lurking there that he is not aware of…  Our heart can very easily deceive us, as clearly seen, in…

Jeremiah 17:9…  The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it?  (ESV)

My friends, God is the only One that can help us search the hidden parts of our heart, to show us our sins…  In our own flesh, things may seem to be so right, when they are indeed so wrong…  Solomon, King David’s son, was the wisest man there ever was (1 Kings 3:9-14)…and he penned this about us being wrong, in our own minds, in…

Proverbs 16:25…  There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.  (ESV)

So as Christians’, what is the best way to be sure we are doing what is right in God’s eyes ??  We are called to take up our cross and follow Christ daily…  Jesus tells us this, in…

Luke 9:23…   And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.   (ESV)

My friends…the only way we can be followers of Jesus Christ, is to first become a “born again” Christian.  It is God’s saving grace that we will receive, once we understand that we can in no way save ourselves from eternal damnation…  We must seek Christ by understanding and obeying the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ…  [See 1. below for a Gospel presentation]

But once we are saved by God’s grace alone (not by our good words, as penned by the Apostle Paul, in…Ephesians 2:8-9), we see in this scripture above, where Jesus tells us to…let him deny himself and take up his cross daily”

Our walk with the Lord can best be accomplished if we ask God to show us our sins on a daily basis (if not moment by moment)…and put our old life to death, by confessing our sins with godly sorrow and a repentant and contrite heart…1 John 1:9…  (see yesterdays post about dying to self, in 2. below)

Once our sins are confessed to the Lord, and turned from…we will be filled with the Holy Spirit, as the Apostle Paul tells us to do, in…

Ephesians 5:18-20…  And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit19 addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart,20 giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,  (ESV)

It is the Holy Spirit that will direct us in God’s will for our lives, if we remain focused on the Lord at all times…

Again, here is scripture penned by the wise Solomon, to give us a great memory verse for us to write on our hearts, and in our minds…

Proverbs 3:5-6…  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.  (ESV)

When we are walking in the Spirit, this means we are obedient every prompting by the Holy Spirit, to do what is right in God’s eyes…  We see this urging to walk in the Spirit, penned by the Apostle Paul, in…

Galatians 5:16…  But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.  (ESV)

God will bless us beyond belief, if we walk in and by the FULL power of the Holy Spirit…  The 9 fruit of the Spirit, penned by the Apostle Paul in Galatians 5:22-23, will grow and mature, as we learn to walk in God’s ways, and not our own…

Galatians 5:22-23…  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  (ESV)

This godly path that the Lord wants us to follow, is not hard for us…if we realize that God is sovereign…  God is in charge of each and every step we take, and would only lead us down a path that is best for our lives…  It may not seem like the right path to us…but God doesn’t make any mistakes…

I am reminded of a web site I came across, on commentaries on…Galatians 5:16… It is a rather long read, but is well worth the time for anyone who truly wants to become a disciple of Jesus Christ…  You can read these extensive commentaries, it in 3. below…  It includes commentary by Charles Stanley, John Piper, John MacArthur, Chuck Swindoll, and many other well know men of God…on how to best walk by the power of the Holy Spirit…

If I had to pick out one particular commentary on…Galatians 5:16…that is not too long of a read…it would be one written by John F. Walvoord, who was head of the Dallas Theological Seminary for a number of years…  It contains every facet of what I believe it means to walk by the FULL power of the Holy Spirit…and is well worth the time it takes to read…  Read it, and be blessed !!  (see 4. below for the link)

Heavenly Father, I am ever so thankful for Your Word…  I pray Father, that Your living and powerful Word (Hebrews 4:12) would cut right to the heart of every Christian who is not walking in the full power of the Holy Spirit, that You have given them to guide and direct their lives Your way…  I pray Father, that we could all learn to walk as true disciples of Your Son Jesus Christ… I pray for us all to experience the blessings You will shower us with, if we walk in Your will and Your ways…in Jesus’ most precious name, and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ,  bruce
