If one really digs into this passage, very quickly a tough word picture emerges. What does it mean, “having made peace through the blood?” Many might look at that and think it refers to some peaceful, easy feeling a person might get who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ. That in itself is true; we ought to have such a feeling. That is not the case here, though; this is teaching that God has literally made peace with us though the shed blood of Jesus. Why is this making of peace needed?
It is needed because in our natural sinful states we are not only separated from God; we are, in fact, in a state of being enemies with God! Repeatedly God has declared himself to be literally at war with sinful man and his rebellion. That may sound tough, friends, but it is true.
Here is another sobering thought. Even though God will ultimately reconcile all Creation to Himself by Jesus , that does not mean all will be saved by Jesus atoning work on the Cross. Some will still reject the peace offer God has made and continue to reject and live at enmity with Him for eternity. Friend, where do you stand? God is extending the palm branch of peace, and wants us to accept; He does not want to be our enemy. Have you made peace with Him?
