The Last Invitation, the Water of Life

Revelation 22:17

“And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely,”      Revelation 22:17

Several hundred years before Jesus was born the prophet Isaiah extended an invitation to those who were spiritually thirsty. He wrote, “Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price” (Isaiah 55:1).

Physical thirst can be an overwhelming sensation. As a daily runner, I have experienced extreme thirst on more than one occasion, and I can testify that the sensation of being parched can override every other sensation one may feel. What about those who are spiritually parched? Isaiah and John the Revelator both extended invitations to those who found themselves spiritually thirsty to find quenching and satisfaction in Jesus Christ. So strong is the need for Jesus that the Bible ends with a desperate request of Jesus to return. That need is still present today.

Though the world may look for answers in various places, it is obvious that our culture is desperately thirsty for God. Many people try to satisfy their thirst through vain pursuits of this world, not understanding that, no matter how much wealth they earn, if they do not have Jesus, they will not have satisfaction. How sweet it is to know Jesus and be satisfied with Him. The child of God who finds ultimate fulfillment in Jesus may have the riches of the world or may be poverty-stricken but will have the peace of God that brings joy no matter the circumstances. May we join with the Spirit and the bride, and say, “Come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20).

JUST A THOUGHT: Jesus is coming soon.
