Having the Mind of Christ
Philippians 2:5-8
“But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men,” Philippians 2:7.
As we consider servanthood, we must look to the Master as our example and pattern. Everything that Jesus did was to bring healing to the sick, to lift up the brokenhearted, to set the sinner free from the chains of sin that bound him. He did it out of love for mankind. He became lower than the angels (Psalm 8:5), took up a towel and ministered to His disciples (John 15:4), and He lived for thirty-three years in a human body. While we will never climb to the level of Christ, we are compelled to love our fellow man, especially our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Being a Christ-follower is often a messy, heartbreaking and thankless calling; nonetheless, we are called to serve others. It is even truer today than any other time. Our social fabric is being torn into shreds: marriages are struggling, children are confused, suicide is at an all-time high, and this is within the Christian community. But, there is light at the end of this dark tunnel—Jesus.
We must cultivate the love of Jesus in our own hearts so that it can spread to others. Unbelievers must see the difference in a life with Jesus. Jesus can change people from the inside out, and when He changes them they will stay changed. They may backslide a little, but their hunger for fellowship with Him will draw them back.
If we are condemned let it be because we are guilty of sharing the love of Jesus, His death, burial and resurrection! Let them know He loves them so much!
REFLECTION: “If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies, fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind” (Philippians 2:1, 2).
