Bogard Press Daily Devotional-Abounding In Spiritual Power

Abounding in Spiritual Power

Romans 15:13

“Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost,” Romans 15:13.

God is presented to the Romans as the source and dispenser of hope. When a person trusts Christ as Savior, hope and love come with the sealing of the Holy Spirit. It cannot be separated (Romans 5:5).
When I was in the fourth grade, we lived in Winnie, Texas. My youngest brother was born here. This is the same house where I glued all my school valentines to the ceiling by jumping on the bed. I was ten years old and knew it was about time I had a bicycle. I thought if I prayed all night for a bike at Christmas, surely God would hear and understand my dilemma. My hopes were dashed; I got another cap pistol with no caps. My hope was wishful thinking.

The hope Paul speaks of here is supernatural and is based on one’s behavior in Jesus after salvation; then, he is prepared to live in joy, peace and hope of the resurrection. God makes Himself real to the believer by the power of the Holy Spirit. “These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full” (John 15:11). Jesus implies that if one will keep his head in God’s Word, the Holy Spirit will apply God’s supernatural hope to his heart which will increase the Christian’s confidence.

“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart, and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths” (Proverbs 3:5, 6).

THOUGHT: God’s standing of peace means one has surrendered his arms and admitted he is battling on the wrong side. In God’s army, you are always a winner.
