Justification Brings Peace
Romans 5:1
“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace
with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,” Romans 5:1.
Peace with God is not just a fuzzy feeling; it is received at salvation. It is a standing of peace, a position that defines our entire life and character. Before salvation, one is at war with God (John 3:36). “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”
The wrath of God abides on the unbeliever. The Greek word “abideth” is meno meaning to set up housekeeping. God and the lost man have drawn up battle lines in the sand. The lost man dares God to invade his territory. Therefore, he thinks he can do as he pleases and break every law in God’s book. What he does not realize is God at creation has programmed negative consequences into every broken law. When the law is broken, the unbeliever begins tripping through minefields, blowing his life and character to smithereens.
This will continue until the rebel realizes there is no strategy to win this war, lays down his arms, falls into a merciful God’s arms, pleading for forgiveness.
In God’s original creation He created man to live in a paradise, free of stress and war. After man’s sin of unbelief, he began living in opposition to God’s laws and protection. For six thousand years man has been at war with his Creator. The merciful God has made a way for man to jump off the merry-go-round of war, but surrender must be from the heart. God who has been offended can see right through pretense and insincerity.
THOUGHT: Only a “broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart” (Psalm 51:17) can appear before God as worship in spirit and truth. “My peace I give unto you” (John 14:27).
