“Why I need God, because I don’t read the Bible”

Every man, woman, and child, old enough to understand and obey the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, [See 1. below], needs God in total control of their lives, whether they know this now, or not !!

This is a statement of fact, if you are a “born again” Christian, where there is no room for debate…when you are walking in and by the Full power of the Holy Spirit…  [See 2. Below]

Galatians 5:16…  But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (ESV)

I continue this series of posts, for every person I am friends with, including my Facebook friends, whether I know them personally or not !!  This includes some atheists I know, at one end of the spectrum…when it comes to “Why I need God !!…all the way to the “born again” Christian at the other end of the spectrum, who is doing their absolute best to walk with the Lord on a mostly continuous basis…  We are walking with the Lord, when we allow the Holy Spirit to fill us (to take total control of our lives), as seen in this scripture, penned by the Apostle Paul, in…

Ephesians 5:18-20…  And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, 20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,   (NKJV)

Today I will focus on why reading the Bible should be an important part of your daily life…  If you missed part 1 on…”Why I need God, because of my addiction to…”, see 3. Below…   Of course the atheist believes the Bible is nothing but made up stories written by man, with absolutely no truth in it…   I am reminded of a post I read some years ago, that (at least or me), gave mathematical proof that the Bible is the inspired Word of God (2 Timothy 3:16-17), written by men who wrote as the Holy Spirit directed them, as clearly seen in…

2 Peter 1:20-21…  knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, 21 for prophecy never came by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.  (NKJV)

[See 4. below for this mathematical proof that God’s inerrant Word is nothing but truth]

You say you don’t read the Bible because you do not understand it ??  To help you understand scripture, God gives His “born again” redeemed children the Holy Spirit at the time God graces them with salvation…   The Holy Spirit will help them in all facets of their lives…including what is termed the “illumination” of scripture…  Jesus told us about how the Holy Spirit would come to be the Helper to all of His redeemed children, in…

John 14:26…   But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.  (ESV)

If you are living in this world of sin and shame, without the protection of God’s spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:10-20)…and the Holy Spirit to go before you to keep Satan and his evil fallen demon angels in check…you are headed down a path that that the Bible states will lead to destruction, in…

Matthew 7:13-14   “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. 14  Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.  (NKJV)

Make no mistake about it…we struggle against Satan and the demonic forces that are constantly trying to bring us down…  We see this in the following scripture penned by the Apostle Paul in…

Ephesians 6:12-13   For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  (NKJV)

To keep Satan and our own unredeemed flesh in check, it takes a combination of reading God’s Word (the Bible), to put on all 6 pieces of God’s protective spiritual armor…as we see in…Ephesians 6:10-20 (https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=eph6%3A10-20%2C+&version=NKJV)  …and the need to submit our lives to God, in order to have the devil flee from us…

James 4:7-8…  Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.  (ESV)

I spent a day writing about these 2 pieces of scripture (Ephesians 6:10-20 & James 4:7-8), that I titled…”God’s Duo”, for anyone interested in how I personally have kept Satan in check (most of the time), by submitting my life to the FULL power of the Holy Spirit…   But the Holy Spirit  must be left in total control of all that I say and do…  Do I still sin ??  Absolutely !!  But to God be the glory for His amazing grace…and for His presence and power in my life !!  [See 5. below for my post…”God’s Duo”]

Are you tired of an uphill struggle in your life ??  Think about it…  Once God is behind you, anything man can do to you in this life will pale, when compared to a life God will bless you with, as His obedient child…  We see the writer of Hebrews pen this, in…

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him(NKJV)

These rewards are not only for here and now, with the blessings of spiritual fruit God promises to shower upon His obedient children… They are eternal with the absolute 100% guarantee you will be in heaven face to face with Jesus, when you breath your last breath here on earth !! (2 Corinthians 5:8)    Look at this list of 9 spiritual fruit that God wants you to grow and mature, as penned by the Apostle Paul, in…

Galatians 5:22-23…  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  (ESV)

These spiritual fruit will bless you beyond mortal comprehension, as you walk in and by the power of the Holy Spirit…(Galatians 5:16)

Why would you want to tackle life’s trials and tribulations in your own strength, with very little or no hope set before you ??  Since God doesn’t make any mistakes, why don’t you consider looking to Him to direct your path in life ??

Proverbs 3:5-6…  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.  (NKJV)

When I look at this list of Christ like attributes God wants you to possess and mature, in …Galatians 5:22-23love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…wouldn’t it be nice to be able to love everyone around you, no matter what ??

You can have this blessed life by seeking Christ while He may still be found (Isaiah 55:6), by opening the link in 1. below and obeying the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ…

And what about you “born again” Christians that spend little or no time in reading the Bible ??  Jesus makes it clear, that we need to be fed spiritually (hopefully every day), just like we need food and water to survive…  We see this penned twice in Matthew 4:4…&…Luke 4:4

Matthew 4:4…  But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”  (NKJV)

When we spend time reading the Bible as God’s redeemed children, God writes scripture on our hearts and in our minds that we can draw from, when the trials of life and Satan’s temptations to sin try to bring us down…  God speaks to us through reading His Word, that will edify us, and build us up in ways that give us needed truth that will set us free from Satan’s bonds of sin and shame…  I am reminded of this scripture spoken by Jesus in…

John 8:31-32…  So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, 32 and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”  (ESV)

When the Holy Spirit convicts you that you should spend time in the Bible, and you fail to do so, even though you have the time…did you know that you are sinning in God’s eyes ??   This is known as “the sin of omission”, as penned by the Apostle James in…

James 4:17…  So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.  (ESV)

Finding the time to read the Bible every day may seem daunting at first…  But you will find that feeding your spirit can not only help you grow in spiritual knowledge and wisdom…you just might find it is the most enjoyable part of your day !!  In 6. below, you will find a link for an app where you can read (or listen) to the scripture and commentary to read (or listen to) the Bible in a year !!…  [No more excuses that you don’t have the time !!  J]

Gracious God and heavenly Father…I pray that Your living and powerful Word (Hebrews 4:12), will work on the hearts and minds of those that don’t spend any or little time in Your life changing Word…  I pray Father that You will draw in those who are not yet “born again” believers (John 6:44)…and that they would open the Gospel presentation in 1. below, and seek Your Son Jesus Christ to become their personal Lord and Savior…  I pray Father, that those “born again” believers that are not being spiritually fed most every day by spending time in Your Word, would be urged by the Holy Spirit to feed their soul on a regular basis…   I pray for lives to be changed by You right now, so that spending time in the Bible would become as necessary to daily living, as food and water…  I pray for everyone reading these words to be blessed by You beyond belief…in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ,  bruce
