The Proper Walk of a Christian

Romans 13:11-14

“But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not
provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof,” Romans 13:14.

As has been stated before; salvation is not the apex of our Christian lives. While it is the greatest thing the Lord can do for us, it is not the only thing He can do for us and through us. Salvation is merely the beginning of our lives as Christians. The expression we often use, Christian walk, says a lot. Standing still is not walking; to walk implies that we put one foot in front of another and move forward.

We are on a spiritual walk so to speak, and God’s expectation of us is that we do place one spiritual foot in front of another and move forward. In verse 13, of our study Scripture for today, we see the following: “ Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.” It is important that we not mistake this for a laundry list of dos and don’ts; a checklist of proper Christian things is not the point. The real point comes in our key verse.

We are to take off our old selves, and put on the Lord Jesus Christ. We are to turn our backs on the things of the flesh (the world) and move toward the things Jesus has planned and foreordained for us. Our Christian lives are to be a constant walk from where we are now to where we are going. Are we walking, or are we standing?

JUST A THOUGHT: If we are a long-time Christian, do we have years of experience and growth or just the same year repeated over and over?
