“Are you being spiritually fed by the Word ??”
WE MUST ‘READ’ AND ‘OBEY’ THE WORD OF GOD. MANY HAVE A BIBLE AND RARELY READ
OR STUDY THE HOLY SCRIPTURES.
1. John 8:31-32 ‘If you continue in My Word, then are ye my disciples indeed.
And ye shall know the Truth and the Truth shall make you free.’
Notice the little but important word ‘if’ ! Do you live and abide in His
Word?
A true and obedient disciple will be determined to know the Truth of God’s
Word. We need to get rid of our lame excuses for not taking the time to
read, study and obey the Word.
-
Acts 17:11 ‘These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they
received the Word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures
daily, whether those things were so.’ We must be eager and earnest to study
the holy scriptures ourselves. Do your own homework and seek the absolute
Truth so you may grow spiritually and to be able to discern truth from
error. A true minister of the Word will never contradict or explain away
anything found in God’s Word.
-
But you search the scriptures ‘daily’ and test and make sure what you hear
is the Truth for there are many false teachers and false doctrines
everywhere and just because its popular does not mean it is biblical.
James 1:22 ‘But be ye doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving
your own selves.’ Simply reading and studying and hearing the Word does not
profit us if you do not do what it says. You can look at a plate of healthy
food cooked day after day and still die of starvation. Why? Because you did
not eat it.
Self-deception is the worst kind of deception.
You may boast of having a lot
of knowledge of the Bible but be deceived because you do not obey it.
God’s Word can only grow in the soil of obedience.
We can measure the effectiveness of our Bible study by the effect it has on
our conduct, speech and attitudes.
4.BUT WHAT SHOCKS ME THE MOST IS HOW MANY WHO SAY THEY FOLLOW JESUS BUT DO
NOT FAITHFULLY READ THE WORD OF GOD WHICH IS ESSENTIAL !
We all take the time for what is important to us don’t we? If we neglect the
daily reading and feeding on the holy scriptures then we need to ask
ourselves are we truly a disciple of Jesus. Examine your heart and life
today.
5.THOUGHTS ON READING YOUR BIBLE by Ryle.
2nd Timothy 3:16 ‘All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is
profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in
righteousness.’
1) Read the Bible with an earnest desire to understand it.
2) Read the Scriptures with a simple, childlike faith and humility.
3) Read the Word with a spirit of obedience and self-application.
4) Read the Holy Scriptures every day.
5) Read the whole Bible and read it an orderly way.
6) Read the Word of God fairly and honestly.
7) Read the Bible with Christ constantly in view.
6.Brother David- We must read the Word of God in order to live it and obey
it and grow and become healthy disciples of our Lord Jesus Christ. We must
feed on the Word of God! Matthew 4:4 ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but
by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Father’. The Word of God
is Absolute Truth. It is unshakable, divine, inspired and perfect.
Christianity is a biblical worldview that speaks to ‘every area’ of life and
its foundational doctrines define its content. We need to be passionate
about the Truth and living according to the Truth. 3rd John 1:4 ‘I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in Truth.’
7.NEGLECT OF THE BIBLE ! A PRAYER.
‘Father, how I have failed in this
area. You have given me so much light, so much instruction regarding the
power of Your Word, the necessity for it, and the dangers of neglecting it
.Yet I have been so apathetic and lazy about reading Your Word. Your Word is
the number one way of truly knowing You and Your character. Your Word keeps
me from deception and gives me discernment. I must obey Your Word, yet I
allow the cares of this world and busyness to squeeze it out of my life.
Your Word is profitable for teaching, correction, reproof and trains me to
live a godly life and yet in my pride I have ignored Your Word.
I confess my neglect of Your Word as a sin and I have grieved Your Spirit.
Please forgive me and create in me a renewed hunger for Your Word .
To think, O LORD, THAT THERE ARE THOSE WHO WOULD GIVE THEIR VERY LIVES TO
HAVE A COPY OF YOUR WORD or even a portion of it. To think how casually I
have handled it ! What lack of gratitude I have for my Bible. Help me to
treasure Your Word and hide it diligently in my heart.
Forgive me for my apathy.
I love you Lord and this week I will feast on Your Word. Amen.’
