Disguised 911 call and lesson for Christians to listen well

There’s a spiritual point I want to make with this.

This was on the news a few months ago: “Woman disguises 911 call by ordering pizza.”

Here’s the video:

The lady was in a dire abuse situation.  So she pretends to call an order for Pizza but was really calling 911 for help.  The dispatcher is being praised for listening well.

I thought that’s a lesson to all of us: We got to listen well.

We got to listen well and as a Christian sometimes that means we have to be extra patient with being considerate with the other person is saying.

Those in the ministry need to also pay attention to other signs of trouble.  Domestic abuse is real even in the church.  A sharp eye and attentive ear goes a long way.

But its not just situation with domestic abuse we need to listen well.

We need to listen well during ordinary fellowship.  You show someone you care by listening.

You listen well when you are engaged in biblical counseling.  Sometimes listening well allows you to find the root of a person’s problem.  You don’t want to go by your assumption that’s unfounded.  You want to know what’s really the person’s problem.

You want to listen well in evangelism.  That way you can bring the Gospel to bear in a better applicable way.

Even with apologetics you want to listen well; sometimes listening well you notice your opponent provide the very own self-defeating refutation.  I know that’s happened a lot of time in my evangelistic discussions with someone hostile towards me and the faith.

You want to listen well to criticism.  You want to listen well so you can see if its true and grow and change for the glory of God.

It can be overwhelming with everything I’m saying.  But start by listening well to God from His Word.  Not that I have arrived for I know there’s a lot God is still working in me, but I found that has helped me to be better at listening to others.
