Guest Post: Making The Most Of Every Opportunity

Note: This is a guest post since presently I am busy today teaching class online for seminary students overseas.  This is by Robert Chamberlain.  His blog be found herehere and here!  Yes he blogs in three places!  Go check out his page and give his blogs a follow!

Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. Be wise in the way you act towards outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.

Colossians 4:2‭-‬6 NIVUK

In 2016 I had the privilege of visiting my friend who’s become a pastor in New Zealand. Not only so, but he also got me to do a cafe-pianist style evangelistic event at his church, where I shared my testimony of faith in Jesus.

I mention this because I want to encourage us all to make the most of every opportunity. I think we often approach that phrase passively, waiting for opportunities to witness about Christ to come up and slap us in the face as it were!

But I think when it comes to telling others about our faith, we can be proactive, and create opportunities to share the good news.

That’s what my friend did in asking me to do the evangelistic event at his church. You may not be able to play the piano, but if you belong to Jesus, you have a testimony of faith in Him that can and must be proclaimed.

I love visiting friends in different parts of the world, and not just for the free bed and board, or even for the fellowship. Such visits present opportunities to declare the good news of salvation in Jesus.

We don’t have to speak at evangelistic events to fulfill God’s Great Commission to make disciples of all nations. We can tell people one to one of how they too can have peace with God through Jesus.

What does matter is that whoever we are, and whatever our gifts, as members of God’s Kingdom, we’re good ambassadors of Him.

What opportunities have you created to speak the gospel? What opportunities could you create to make Jesus known?”
