Our “This Sunday” series will be another a Corona Virus edition. For this Sunday here’s what you can do: Pray for Government Leaders.
Last week’s post was on Patience with disagreements about the Virus. Among the many things people can disagree about during this time of Corona Virus is what is the best government response and what’s the best policy. I know its not an easy time.
This verse is still true even with the virus situation: “First of all, then, I urge that entreaties and prayers, petitions and thanksgivings, be made on behalf of all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity. 3 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.“ (1 Timothy 2:1-4). Notice we pray for those in government in verse 2. The purpose of that is stated: “so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.” Verse three further validate this is a good thing.
Yet it is not easy.
I know there’s different part of the government right now that conflict with each other about when things can be opened up. For instance some Sheriffs have stated they won’t enforce certain governors’ rule. Then the President said Churches should be open up but certain governors disagree. If various magistrates disagree I imagine the people would disagree as well; and that include those within the church.
But one thing we can agree is to pray, to pray for government leaders. Pray for them to have wisdom. Pray for them to want to do the right thing. Pray for them to weigh all the options.
Just like last week post nothing I said above should be taken that you can’t have a view on what the government should do. My point is no matter your view as a Christian we pray for the government to have wisdom to do what’s best and what’s wise.
