God wants to restore broken relationships.

Family Harmony

The traditional family is under attack according to a Pew Research article about the American Family.

Two-parent households are on the decline in the United States as divorce, remarriage, and cohabitation are on the rise. And families are smaller now, both due to the growth of single-parent households and the drop in fertility. Not only are Americans having fewer children, but the circumstances surrounding parenthood have changed. While in the early 1960s babies typically arrived within a marriage[1] today fully four-in-ten births occur to women who are single or living with a non-marital partner.

At the same time that family structures have transformed, so has the role of mothers in the workplace – and in the home. As more moms have entered the labor force, more have become breadwinners – in many cases, primary breadwinners – in their families.[2]

While in the past a child born to a married couple – as most children were – was very likely to grow up in a home with those two parents, this is much less common today, as a child’s living arrangement changes with each adjustment in the relationship status of their parents. For example, one study found that over a three-year period, about three-in-ten (31%) children younger than 6 had experienced a major change in their family or household structure, in the form of parental divorce, separation, marriage, cohabitation or death.[3]

Many children are born into situations where, from a sociological standpoint, they don’t have a chance. Because of the societal issues, economic downturns, drug addiction, abuse, lack of education, and break down of the family foundation some children seem destined to mirror the struggles their parents have suffered. Families, more than ever are prone to drift apart. But it doesn’t have to be that way. God has the power to restore family relationships.

There was a moving story on 20/20 about a young man who had grown up in an abusive home and had been taken away from his mother at age 10. He later discovered that he had two older brothers who died in infancy.

He wanted to give his siblings a proper Christian burial, and as he began the process of relocating the graves of these infants, he made a startling discovery: he stumbled across compelling evidence that his brothers had been murdered by their abusive mother. The 20/20 story focused on how this man participated in bringing his mother to justice. But they missed the miracle in this story.

They failed to acknowledge the fact that since this man had committed his life to Christ, he had been able to break the chain of abuse. He was a loving, caring father to his children, and provided for them in a way his parents never could. God has the power to break the negative patterns that we inherit from our families.

Isaiah says, “They will not toil in vain or bear children doomed to misfortune; for they will be a people blessed by the Lord, they and their descendants with them.” Isaiah 65:23
Also, God wants to restore,

Racial Harmony

Several events in the past few months have caused people to recognize that racial tension is at an all-time high. Racial tension is not happening only in America; it is an international epidemic. God wants us to live together in harmony. Isaiah says, ”The wolf and the lamb will feed together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox they will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain.” Isaiah 65:25
Also, God wants to restore our,

Spiritual Harmony

Isaiah says, “…for they will be a people blessed by the Lord, they and their descendants with them. Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear.” Isaiah 65:23b-24

This is a promise that the gap that exists between God and man will be bridged—and our broken relationship will be restored. Since the days of Adam, we have been separated from God, not only by Adam’s sin but by our own as well. God promised in Genesis 3:15 that this broken relationship would someday be restored; this was accomplished through Jesus Christ. Paul wrote,

“Remember that you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigner to the covenants of the promise, without hope and God in the world. But now in Christ Jesus, you who once were far away have been brought near through the blood of Christ.” Ephesians 2:12-13

God promises our relationship with Him can be one of peace, fellowship, and blessing. Unfortunately, these are not the words that many people use to describe their relationship with God. Many people view a relationship with God as a source of guilt, judgment, and unrealistic expectations.
Everyone has experienced a broken relationship with God (Romans 3:23), but God offers us restoration through the death and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ. And He gives us peace. Paul said,

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Romans 5:1

The fallen world in which we live and all humanity are victims of the fall. As a result, many of us live broken lives.   Our lives are filled with broken pasts. We experience broken dreams, and we endure broken relationships. It may be that way for you now, but it doesn’t have to remain that way. God has made an offer of restoration. He offers fallen humanity a Savior, Jesus Christ, who repairs the brokenness. Through Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross, He does what we could never do.  Jesus takes things that are broken and puts them back together again. Jesus puts us back together whole and completely restored.
