ON FIRE

Written by bruce r. mills for “God’s group”  @ www.Godsmanforever.com

“Are You a Christian in God’s Eyes, and ON FIREfor the Lord, or not ??”

I write this post with this provocative title, with absolute love and concern for the eternal destiny of family, friends, neighbors, old CBC Youth Group kids (now young adults,) and all those in my circle of influence who are not yet “born again” Christians in God’s eyes…or believers who are not now ON FIRE for the Lord.

You look at the length of this important post and are considering to stop right here.  But when you compare 15 minutes of your time, vs. an eternity in either heaven or hell…you just might want to spend the time reading to the end. This I hope will include “The gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ”…the “good news” message God uses to save sinners.  [See reference number 3 below]   Jesus gives us an excellent description of a place where you won’t want to spend eternity, in…Luke 16:19-31…  (Google it !!)

I also write this post for truly “born again” Christians, who have lost the fire for the Lord that they once had, after being graced by God with salvation.  Let’s be clear here…you cannot lose your salvation once saved by God’s grace !!  (OSAS)  But if the Lord is not first in your life…you are “lukewarm”.   My personal belief with the following scripture, has Jesus telling some that they are “lukewarm” Christians.    [Both Christians in name only, and “born again” Christians]

Revelation 3:16…  So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I willvomityou out of My mouth.  (NKJV)

WOW !!    If you are only “lukewarm” for Jesus, I pray you continue reading this possible life-changing post !!

This title, and the truth I share with love, I pray will be used by God to raise the eyebrows and open hearts and minds to God’s truth, of those who falsely believe they are a Christian in God’s eyes…when sadly they are not.

I know from my personal life experience how easy it is for Satan to blind the eyes and confuse the minds of unbelievers.

2 Corinthians 4:4…   In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.  (ESV)

You see, I thought I was a Christian for almost 52 years before God drew me in (John 6:44).  And God, yes God alone…graced me with salvation, and filled me with the Holy Spirit.  How is this possible you ask ??  Read on, and I will tell you !!

If you are not 100% sure you’re a “born again” Christian…positively knowing you are heaven-bound after you draw your last breath…I pray you spend the time reading why you might not be a Christian in God’s eyes.

There are many people that say they are a Christian.  They say they believe in God.  But even Satan knew who God was.  If you are interested in these scripture verses, you will see God/Jesus speaking with Satan, in…Job 1:7-12 & Matthew 4:1-11.

Becoming a “born again” Christian in God’s eyes is absolutely the most important thing that can happen in your entire life !!  If you aren’t 100% sure you are heaven bound when you draw your last breath, you are either only a Christian in your own mind, without a heart changed by God (called heart regeneration)…or your “born again…” saved by God’s grace, and sealed with the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption…Ephesians 1:13-14…  But as a new believer, you still need to grow and mature in your Christian walk. God has indwelt you with the Holy Spirit to combat sin…but the flesh is weak.  You should want to obey the leading of the Holy Spirit, but your spiritual walk will take time to mature, as you are being sanctified and conformed into the image of Christ…Romans 8:29

Satan can cause doubts in the “born again” Christian’s mind.  It is only by allowing the Holy Spirit to take total control of your life, that you will be filled with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 5:18-20), and will then be able to Walk in the Spirit…Galatians 5:16

With the Holy Spirit controlling your every thought…you will 100% KNOW that you ARE heaven bound when you die !!

How can you be 100% sure you ask ??  Because we read this, penned by the apostle Paul…

Romans 8:16  The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God(NKJV)

Becoming a Christian is God’s will (which I will expound upon below), not because you were raised by Christian parents, or because you say you want to become a Christian. You are not necessarily a Christian in God’s eyes because you made a prayer to God in a Youth Group 3 day weekend Christian rally at “Snow Camp,” up at the Word of Life Bible Institute, in Pottersville, NY.

I have a lot of respect for the Word of Life Institute.  My daughter was saved there by God’s grace, on a Youth Group weekend rally. They preach the gospel of Christ 3 times, over this 3-day weekend.  But one of the ways they preach the gospel of Christ…has them telling these teenagers they are going to hell for an eternity if they don’t accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior.  Of course, some of these kids might make a prayer to God for salvation out of fear.   And those that profess to have been graced with salvation by God, are given a Bible with the date they were saved.   But if this is only salvation in their mind, (because God never regenerated their heart)…they falsely believe they are a Christian, when sadly they are NOT.

And you don’t necessarily become a Christian in God’s eyes when you heard the famous Billy Graham preach the gospel of Christ at a Boy Scout rally when you were 16, and you prayed what some call the “sinners prayer” to accept Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior.  If you made a profession of faith, you were called forward and congratulated on becoming a “born again” Christian.  But you might falsely believe (sometimes lifelong,) that you are a true Christian in God’s eyes…without any of the good works which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them…AFTER we are saved by God’s grace.  These good works done AFTER our salvation, are proof we ARE a Christian in God’s eyes if they were works prepared by God beforehand.

Ephesians 2:10…  For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.  (NKJV)

The Bible is clear, for those that have called themselves a Christian for quite a while…that faith without works is dead faith.  We see this twice, in scripture written by the apostle James (Jesus’ half-brother), in…James 2:17 & James 2:24 & 26.

James 2:17…   Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.  (NKJV)

James 2:24 & 26…  You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.  26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.  (NKJV)

John 15:4-5…  Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing (ESV)

A brand new “born again” Christian is saved by God alone, based upon the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross…through saving faith alone, by God’s grace alone…Ephesians 2:8-9…  There are no good works needed to be done for the Lord to be saved by God.  A good example of this would be the thief on the cross, that did no good works for the Lord his entire life.  The thief believed Jesus Christ was the Son of God and said this…

Luke 23:41b-43…  but this Man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said to Jesus, “Lord, remember me when You come into Your kingdom.”  43 And Jesus said to him, “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with Me in Paradise.”  (NKJV)

And you don’t become a Christian in God’s eyes, with a guaranteed room in God’s mansion when you die (John 14:1-4), just because you go to a church and comply with all the Sacraments your church tells you that you must fulfill, in order to be graced by God with Salvation.   You can go to church every week, and fulfill all the other works-based requirements of the church.  But these good works won’t get you past the pearly white gates of heaven after you take your last breath here on earth.  We see clearly, in these two possibly eye-opening pieces of scripture seen below, that it’s not your good works that you do in the name of the Lord, that are required for you to be graced with salvation by God.

Ephesians 2:8-9  For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. (NKJV)

There is nothing an unbeliever can do on their own merit to be saved.  No amount of good works done in the name of the Lord can cleanse away sins.  All of our own righteousness is absolutely worthless…Isaiah 64:6…  Jesus warns those who falsely believe that their good works done in the name of the Lord (like going to church every week), will get them into heaven…when Jesus warns those around Him (and us) this…

Matthew 7:21-23Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me,” you who practice lawlessness!’” (NKJV)

I never knew you; depart from Me is Jesus telling those who want to enter heaven after they die, that He never knew them as His redeemed “born again” children.  They were never truly saved by God’s grace, and thus were never a Christian in God’s eyes.

The key to this scripture is establishing a RELATIONSHIP with God the Father, through His Son Jesus Christ.  WE KNOW Him, and He KNOWS us.

These good works in the life of a true “born again” Christian, are evidence after their salvation that they are truly a Christian.  They should include, (but not be limited to,) praying to God every day. The apostle Paul tells us we should pray without ceasing, in…1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

And we should be spending time reading and digesting God’s Word (the Bible,) hopefully every day.  Being spiritually fed from God’s Word is every bit as important as eating food and drinking water.

You cannot grow spiritually apart from reading, studying the Bible, and applying God’s Word to your life.  Jesus tells us twice in…Matthew 4:4 & Luke 4:4, that we need to be spiritually fed in order to grow in what is called progressive sanctification.  See reference number 1 below for a good description

Matthew 4:4  But He answered and said, “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”  (NKJV)

This Word from God (the Bible), is given by inspiration of God, as men were empowered by the Holy Spirit when they wrote the 66 books of the Bible.     (See 2 Timothy 3:16-17 & 2 Peter 1:21)

Attending a Bible-believing and teaching church (hopefully every week) to use your spiritual gift(s), is also a sign that you MIGHT be heaven bound as a “born again” Christian when you die. God gives EVERY “born again” redeemed child of His, a spiritual gift(s), that they are to use in a local church “to edify the whole body,” (the body of Christ)

1 Peter 4:10As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.  (NKJV)

Here we read this scripture on the need for attending church hopefully every week, as penned by the writer of Hebrews, in…

Hebrews 10:25…   not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near. (ESV)

There is an excellent link with many scripture verses and reasons for attending church to use your spiritual gift(s), that you can read about, in reference number 2 below.

Yes, the truth about “becoming a Christian in God’s eyes is the most important thing you can do in your entire life.  And the Bible is clear that a “born again” Christian is a new creation in Christ.  Your life will change dramatically !!

2 Corinthians 5:17…   Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.  (NKJV)

We also see that it is ALL God’s will and God’s work to be “born again,” in the following scripture penned by the apostle John, in…

John 1:12-13…  But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: 13 who were born, notof blood, nor of the will of the flesh, norof the will of man, but of God.  (NKJV)

Did you catch the most important words from this scripture, “to them He gave the right to become children of God” ??

We also see Jesus telling us this very important point, that happened to me as I mentioned above before I was justified as righteous in God’s eyes.

John 6:44…  No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day.  (ESV)

We can only be saved by God’s grace by knowing God with a One on one relationship with our heavenly Father, which occurs after understanding and obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. [See reference number 3 below]

We read this very clearly when we read about those who fail to seek the Lord while He may still be found (Isaiah 55:6,) in this scripture penned by the apostle Paul, in…

2 Thessalonians 1:8-9…  in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus ChristThese shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, (NKJV)

I must tell you about the amazing benefits God gives to His “born again” children.  God indwells every new redeemed child of His with the Holy Spirit.  And the Holy Spirit is the Helper and Comforter of the believer…who will guide, protect, and empower God’s children in ways that have to be experienced to be believed !!  The Holy Spirit can open doors and accomplish things in the life of God’s redeemed children, that they could never do by their own strength or merit.  We see this in the following scripture…

Ephesians 3:20…  Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,  (NKJV)

My friend…maybe you want to be a nurse.  Why limit your potential, when God may want you to be a doctor ??  The Holy Spirit is God’s power that works in us,” that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think !!”   When we understand God’s will for our lives…and we do our best to live in His will by obeying the leading of the Holy Spirit…our lives will flourish is so many ways !!

When we are obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit, He helps us grow and mature in the fruit of the Spirit, we see penned by the apostle Paul, in…

Galatians 5:22-23…  But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  (ESV)

Look at these amazing, supernaturally empowered, “Christ-like” attributes the Holy Spirit will help you with !!  Carefully look at each one, [love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control], to see where you may need real help.

I just can’t imagine going through my day without the help of the Holy Spirit keeping me on track to live for Christ !!  A good example of the Holy Spirit’s power helping us would be when you can tell someone screaming in your face that you still love them !!  (See Matthew 5:43-44)

And the Holy Spirit can give you supernatural peace, even with the death of a loved one, if you know they are now in heaven with the Lord. (2 Corinthians 5:8) This spiritual peace goes beyond our mortal comprehension, as we see in the following scripture…

Philippians 4:6-7…   do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (ESV)

John 14:27…   “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.”  (ESV)

God wants to take over your burdens and give you rest; and God promises to never leave you, nor forsake you if you are one of His redeemed children.  We see this scripture spoken by Jesus Himself…

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”  (ESV)

Now I write for all of you “born again” Christians reading this, that have lost the FIRE you once had for the Lord, after being saved by God’s grace.  If God is not first in your life…I believe you are a “lukewarm” Christian.  Jesus tells us this, in…

Revelation 3:15-16…   “I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth.  (NKJV)

I will vomit you out of my mouth.”   This should have you cringing, with the Holy Spirit urging you to place God first again in your life !!  Don’t you think it’s time to stop trying to live your life your way ??   God wants you to come back to Him, and allow the Holy Spirit to again take FULL charge of your life. (Ephesians 5:18-20)   You need to confess, repent, and turn from any and all sins (including the sin of not placing God first in your life…known as a sin of omission – James 4:17)

1 John 1:9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  (NKJV)

Once all sins are humbly confessed before God, repented of, and turned from…God will be free to bless you in so many ways !!  The fruit of the Spirit shown above (love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control,) will once again grow and mature, as the Holy Spirit is allowed to guide and direct every facet of your life.  Since God doesn’t make any mistakes…why not allow Him to direct your every move ??

Proverbs 3:5-7…  Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.  Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil.  (NKJV)

By this time, I am hoping the Holy Spirit has been working on your heart if you are “born again”, urging you to come back under His control. And if you’re not a “born again” Christian, I pray you are urged to learn more about how you can become a redeemed, child of God.  Just continue on after my prayer, to a gospel presentation.  This is the gospel of Jesus Christ (the word gospel means “good news”)…which God uses to tell those who want eternal life in heaven with Him, what it means to understand and obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Gracious God and heavenly Father, I thank You and praise You for who You are.  I pray Father, that You would draw in and open the blinded eyes of those non-Christians who falsely believe that they are Christians in Your eyes when they are not.  I pray that the Holy Spirit would work on their heart and that they would seek Your Son Jesus Christ to become their personal Lord and Savior, by understanding and obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ presented in reference number 3 below.

I pray for those “born again” lukewarm Christians, that have wandered away from You, to come back under the control of the Holy Spirit, by confessing, repenting, and turning from their sins.  I pray for many lives to be changed by You in the blink of an eye, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ,  Bruce

“The Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ”

(Revised from 7/11/2013)

Here is the truth about sin, and how God’s grace through saving faith alone in the Lord Jesus Christ is given by God, to those who understand and obey the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one-man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned— (NKJV)

Most people believe sin began in the Garden of Eden, but it didn’t.  Sin began when God’s top angel Lucifer, decided to flex his power, and wanted to become equal to God…Isaiah 14:12-14

Sin, by its very nature, is born into every human being, since Adam and Eve fell in the Garden of Eden, to the serpent’s (Satan’s) temptations.  This natural sin nature is part of everyone’s natural make-up, from the time they are young children, until the time that they pass on from this life.

That 3-year-old, who is told NO by their parents, goes right ahead and disobeys their parents at the first chance they get.  This is because we are all born with the inherent sin nature of rebellion against God, which turns into rebellion against our parents as we grow older.  God hates sin because it is independent rebellion against God; and will devastate the lives of everyone that remains living in sin…in bondage to Satan and the ways of the world…1 John 2:15-16

The sad truth about sin is that it blinds the unbeliever…

2 Corinthians 4:4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. (NKJV)

Satan is the father of sin (John 8:44), and a master of disguise.  The Apostle Paul warns us about false prophets, and Satan himself...

2 Corinthians 11:12-14 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. 14 And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself  into an angel of light(NKJV)

Thank goodness God sent His Son Jesus Christ, born to the Virgin Mary (Matthew 1:18)…who’s shed blood on the cross at Calvary, will cleanse the sins of those who are first drawn in by God.

John 6:44No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. (NKJV)

Upon understanding and obeying the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, the sins of the unbeliever will be replaced with the perfect righteousness of Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:9 & 2 Corinthians 5:21)…as God’s free gift of grace, through saving faith alone in Jesus Christ, fills the heart, mind, and soul of the new redeemed child of God.

Ephesians 2:8-9…  For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. (NKJV)

There is nothing an unbeliever can do on their own merit.  No amount of good works done in the name of the Lord can cleanse away sins.  All of our own righteousness is absolutely worthless…Isaiah 64:6…  Jesus warns those who falsely believe that their good works done in the name of the Lord (like going to Church every week), will forgive sins…when Jesus warns those around Him (and us) about this…

Matthew 7:21-23Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’”   (NKJV)

Having one’s lifetime of sins forgiven is pure grace given to the unredeemed sinner by God.  God’s grace is given by God to those who seek Jesus Christ to become their personal Lord and Savior, through a personal one on One relationship, that is established between the unredeemed sinner and Jesus Christ.

This is accomplished through saving faith alone in Jesus Christ, through obedience to the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, when the sinner realizes they can in no way save themselves, and turns to the Lord to receive God’s grace.

All of these God-given blessings will be given to you by God if you understand and obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.  How is this done ??  You must pray to God, with what some call “the sinner’s prayer”, that should go something like this.

“Father I am sorry for my lifetime of sins.  I believe that Your Son Jesus suffered and died on the cross, shedding His blood to cleanse away all my sins.  I believe that Jesus was buried, and rose again in 3 days.  I repent and turn from my sins with godly sorrow and a repentant heart…seeking Jesus Christ to come into my heart to direct my life…”

I can only tell you from my own personal experience…that I made this prayer seeking salvation several times before God graced me with salvation.  It’s not the prayer that saves us; it is a changed heart that is regenerated by God Himself.  God knows our heart, and He will only grant saving grace to those who seek Jesus with ALL of their heart, mind soul, and strength.

God finally graced me with salvation when I prayed with true godly sorrow and a repentant heart…and I absolutely knew beyond any doubt, that I was just then a redeemed child of God.  It is God’s decision, and God’s perfect timing, to grace someone with eternal life with Him in heaven.

Failure to obey the gospel of Christ before you die will result in eternal separation from God, and you will forever forfeit your place in heaven.

2 Thessalonians 1:8-9in flaming fire takingvengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power, (NKJV)

All Christians who are Walking in the Spirit (Galatians 5:16), should absolutely, positively know for sure, that they are indeed a redeemed child of God.  The Apostle Paul tells us this…

Romans 8:15-16…  For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.”  16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that wearechildren of God, (NKJV)

There should be no doubts for the Spirit-filled Christian about where they will be headed upon their death.  No wondering if they are good enough to get into heaven.  Because none of us are good enough…

Romans 3:23… for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, (NKJV)

The power of the Holy Spirit can and will conquer sin, by those who without question, have placed their lives in the hands of the Lord.  The Apostle James says this best, when he penned this, in…

James 4:7-8… Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. (NKJV)

My friends, these blessings of spiritual fruit are totally indescribable, and have to be experienced to be believed !!

For those who have been graced with salvation…we must do our best to remain walking in the Spirit.  We see this penned by the Apostle Paul…

Galatians 5:16…   I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.  (NKJV)

We as Christians can only remain filled with the Holy Spirit (as the Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 5:18-20) if we live in obedience to God’s will and God’s ways.  Any un-confessed sins will leave us in a state of rebellion against God, and out of fellowship with Him.

To establish a right relationship again with God, we must confess our sins before the Lord…repent of them…and turn from them.  By doing so we are again in fellowship with the Lord.  We see this very clearly, as penned by the Apostle John…

1 John 1:9… If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness(NKJV)

Living for the Lord, with the Holy Spirit in total charge of your life, is a blessing that I pray everyone will come to experience.

Heavenly Father, Your Word is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword…Hebrews 4:12-13…  I pray Lord, that You would draw those that don’t yet know You as their personal Lord and Savior, to Yourself…John 6:44… And that the truth from Your Word through obedience to the Gospel of Your Son Jesus Christ, would set them free from Satan’s chains of bondage to sin and shame…John 8:32…  I pray for this fullness of Christ in all of our lives, in Jesus’ most precious name and for His sake…Amen…

Blessings in Christ, bruce r. mills
