Asking Others: What do you think is the most important thing in my life?
October 27, 2020 by SLIMJIM
Wow I was working on a post last night and fell asleep early after a long weekend, and yesterday was a day I did a lot of physical stuff with family and helping others!
But that got me thinking about writing this post about what is the most important thing in your life.
For me what is most important is God, Christ, the Holy Spirit, the Bible and the Gospel. I hope it is obvious from the blog!
But I decided last week to ask my daughter a question: From their understanding what do they think is the most important thing to “Dada” (what they call me as their dad)?
I asked because I want to make sure the main thing in life is the main thing. I want to ask to see for myself how is our parenting and the question serves as a diagnostic question. I ask also for a good heart-check of my own life!
I’m happy that two of my daughters pointed out what is the answer I was hoping for: God. And they knew that was what we wanted to communicate to them also for their own life. Now I wish it was perfect where all three kids gave the answer I wanted. The youngest though in answering what is the most important thing said it is for them to obey our parents. I laughed. You can laugh too. But I bring this up is to say sometimes people might not give the answer we want to hear. This should lead us to do two things. First search to see if our life is living out the truth. Sometimes we can be mistaken about our beliefs about ourselves where we think we are about God, Christ, and the Bible but our actions shows otherwise.
Secondly others can also be wrong in their interpretation of us. But that means we can also share verbally and in conversations with others. With my youngest daughter when she answered the most important thing in my life is for he to listen to us I did tell her we would like her to obey. But we want more than that. We want her to know God for her own good. Her mom and I want her to know Gods love as He has revealed it with Christ dying for our sins, to save us from the just punishment we deserve because of our sins. God’s love is how when we place our trust in Jesus as Savior, we can be saved! That is the most important thing in my life. That is also the most important thing we want others to know including my daughter’s! But once we know His love we love Him back. And love and obedience here comes together, we love first and then we obey God in every sphere of life.
This post is not about parenting.
It is worth asking Others: What do you think is the most important thing in my life?
It can be an evangelistic question, a sanctifying question and relationship-building question all rolled up in one!
P.S. (from bruce) When there is no other place to turn…turn to God !! If you’re not a “born again” Christian, is the Holy Spirit urging you to open this link ?? Here is the truth for this most important days writing, about how God’s grace is received to become a Christian in God’s eyes; through understanding and obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ… https://godsmanforever.com
To my brothers and sisters in Christ, please feel free to share this message of the cross with those in need…
