“Choose your words wisely !!”

But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strife. v.24: And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient.

2nd Timothy 2: 23-24

I’ve heard it said, “There is no such thing as a foolish question.” But I don’t hold with that. In fact, the Bible doesn’t either. Paul told Timothy to avoid some kinds of questions. The reason he told him that was that those kind of questions do bring about strife. And then he went on to tell Timothy that the servant of the Lord MUST NOT strive, but to be gentle to all men, with a goal to help and teach them the truth.

Sometimes we get a little bit testy when we tell people the truth. Paul also told Timothy to preach the gospel in LOVE. That tells me that some before him had preached sermons, but not in love. This morning I asked God to help me avoid the foolish questions that clueless people sometimes ask. That causes argument. And even though debates can be healthy, some, can be hurtful. Choose your battles wisely, and never argue with someone who has demonstrated their incapacity to reason. That can gender strife, and the servant of the Lord must not strive because they answered foolish and unlearned questions. And by the way, sometimes the right and best answer to an unlearned question is this: “I don’t know.”

And other times it may be best to say nothing at all.
