“Fallen from Grace”

Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

Galatians 5:4

A brother who was new in the faith used this verse of scripture in an attempt to “prove” to me that a true believer in Christ can lose their salvation. But we should make no mistake in the fact that God has given His children who place their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, EVERLASTING and UNENDING, ETERNAL LIFE.

I am very thankful that God doesn’t save us by our ability to keep His law. He doesn’t do that, because no man has ever been able to keep it. Only the Lord Jesus Christ was able to do that. Peter would address this issue in Acts 15 when he asked the Council at Jerusalem this question in verse 10: “Now therefore, why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?” And that yoke that Peter was speaking about was their belief in their self-righteousness by the keeping of the law. You see, Peter knew no man could keep it. Peter knew, for he had done his level best to do so, but had failed.

You and I are saved by the shed, sinless blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. The law is good and righteous. But the law is our schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. For as you and I realize our inability to keep the law, it reveals the sin in our life and our need for the sinless Savior to wash away that sin, and reconcile us with God. And a man who trusts in the law to save him has “fallen from grace”, because that trust is misguided in that he incorrectly believes he can be justified by the law. For by grace are you saved, and that is not thru your own self-righteousness, but only the thru God’s unfailing love and grace in the death of Christ on the cross for our sins, and His resurrection from the dead to secure our place in eternity. And knowing this, why would any reasonable man “fall from grace?”
